I'm going to make a sports bar that serves basically every type of french fry you could want. Strange shapes, strange potatoes, dozens of different sauces and dry seasonings. No tater tots. I'll name it something pretentious AF like Pomme, but all it serves is cheap domestic beer and fries.

lauren@lauren.rotatingsandwiches.com

i'm tired of restaurants treating fries and tots as equally valid choices for a side. tots are an iterative improvement over fries by any metric we can measure. fries are a fully outdated technology. if you're still playing the fry meta in 2026 you're already behind the competition

Vice shouldn't be illegal but it should require enough friction that only people who really want to can access it. If you want to bet on a horserace you should have to go down to the OTB and see all the broken, hollow men you've made your peers.

Ignore them and cater to the other 45% of the country. They can either lose the rockefeller republicans that snuck into the party during reagan's tenure or they can lose independents and the left. I suspect the second group is going to be significantly larger than the first within a cycle or 2.

lauren@lauren.rotatingsandwiches.com

seems like a pretty unquestionably true phenomenon and also not something that can be fixed by shunning progressives. but i sympathize a little because i also don't have a solution to the problem of what to do about the 28% of this country that votes exclusively on the impulses of their death drive

Its ok to dislike aspects of the subject of your fandom but if you have a social media presence that is mostly complaining about a thing you're supposedly a fan of you're a fucking loser and society should bully you until you leave social media forever.

tell me a fandom opinion that you’d defend like this

This sounds like cope.

To the Canadians responding by taking credit for this — WSJ lists multiple factors on top of Trump trade wars wrecking exports: Decrease in US drinking because of sober-curious, cost cutters, and GLP-1 users — plus wide availability of cannabis & THC drinks (and other forms)

Reminder that this douchebag thought Iraq was a good idea. Tom Nichols should get a real fucking job so he can contribute something to the country for once in his life.

"In huge swaths of the country, the Democratic brand has become anathema. One obvious move would be for the Democrats, who have hemorrhaged working-class voters, to abandon their stubborn support for politically radioactive racial preferences." www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Bradley if you did not forsee this coming you're not qualified to opine on politics. You're bad at your job and should maybe flip burgers or something for a while til you reconnect with the real world.

Bradley P. Moss@bradmossesq.bsky.social

I specifically address in the thread both (a) that seeking to prosecute him from Day One would not have guaranteed a trial before November 2024 given how SCOTUS would ultimately scramble the timing issue with the immunity ruling, and (b) even if it got to trial and he was convicted, he could

It was actually pretty easy with foresight too.

Bradley P. Moss@bradmossesq.bsky.social

It's really easy in hindsight to view Biden's team, including Garland, as too timid in their response to Trump's actions on J6 and the threat he posed if he returned in 2025. Sure, there were plenty of folks who wanted a more direct and pointed approach to go after Trump early. Hindsight is 20/20.

i know we all know this but goddamn i'm so sick of all these fucking people that will have no problem calling all Somalis low IQ being like "I can't believe he's the same guy he was in his first term. I can't believe he's so racist." We should hunt these people for sport.

I've been reading a lot of ancient history the past few months for the same reasons. It's comforting to know that ancient Romans and Egyptians were struggling with how to deal with their own chuds

You aren't an adult until you try to go back and watch some of those old saturday morning cartoons that only existed to sell you toys and realize how saintly your parents were for putting up with that being on the tv for hours at a time.

Garrett Martin@garrettmartin.bsky.social

whenever people assume I am excited about a movie or show based on something I loved when I was 8 I just think about how weird it would’ve been if my dad got all pumped up about a Howdy Doody movie in 1986

Hot take: American tipping culture needs to go, except in the case of any modifications to a menu item. Modifications should come with a 25% autogratuity. Even sauce on the side. Modify the item, pay 25% more. Eat it as is on the menu, no tipping culture.

Its because an ideology that says "Government should be small and weak and encourage individuals to garner enough wealth and power that they can challenge government" is remarkably poor at actually running a large nation.

Republicans are always rebranding themselves - Tea Party, MAGA are just the last two examples. The reason they have to is the inevitable crash and fall because they let pretenders hiding under the “big tent” lie. Sprinkle in a little “patriotism” and “religious” and ignore their stupidity…

knocking out one of the democrats running for governor is less likely to make it a 2 republican race. Their votes will coalesce around another candidate and not a republican after all.

Willow2@tswillow2.bsky.social

The timing is suspect. Just a couple weeks ago the DoJ said he was being investigated for his connection to a Chinese spy and that bombed out. Why is this coming out now? He's been in Congress for years. I think the Rs are trying to ensure CA has 2 Rs up for gov. by knocking out the D competition.

I mean, he fuckin ran for president because he got mocked at obama's correspondents dinner.

Shimanti@humanconsequences.com

Yeah sure, Trump was going to do the right thing tomorrow until the left started posting TACO memes and caused him to do bad things again. It’s all our fault. The memes made him do it.

Typical fragile blue check post. Its fine to be upset where we're at but nostalgia for the candidate whose campaign failed badly enough to bring us here is mental illness.

Santiago Mayer@santiagomayer.com

Watching videos of Kamala Harris in 2026 is like checking in on an ex you broke up with years ago but haven’t really gotten over.

This is a batshit take. He's exposed so many fundamental weaknesses in our constitution, branches and system of governance. Now that he's shown how it works we're going to get an endless cyclical resurgence of men just like him taking power. We have 77 million americans who actively want this

Sarkis Zaroukian@sarkisz.bsky.social

Ironically the logic behind "none of this would be happening if Kamala Harris was president" is that Donald Trump fell out of a coconut tree and doesn't exist in the context of all in which he lived and came before him. He's a historical aberration and once he goes away America will be great again.

Y'all post this like a dunk when a trans anarchist historian i follow has been predicting the broad strokes of where we are today with terrifying accuracy since obama droned that us citizen. Fuck even I knew biden getting elected meant a stronger fascist backlash the next election.

Literally all they have to do is make it risky enough that lloyds of london wont insure ships travelling through it. They don't have to actually close anything off. If the Houthis do the same in the south we're all pretty fucked

Shepherd@neolithicsheep.bsky.social

...any of the thousands of US Navy members current and former who have transited the Strait of Hormuz while Iran trolled the ship for shits and giggles can describe for you at least 3 ways they can close the Strait without attending any briefing.

Well to begin with neither of them have an enforcement arm, all enforcement arms are under the authority of the president. But also, most of them want what he's doing to happen, but with more civility and for show 'process' because they live for norms and unspoken rules.

Ashley Zacharias@ashleyzacharias.bsky.social

Who would have guessed that the legal system in America was so fragile that a single crazy president could ignore the whole thing, from the Constitution right down to state laws? Why does the Supreme Court and Congress let this demented moron act like the dictator of a banana republic?

My weird conspiracy theory is that the US does not have a worthwhile national mass transit system because they don't think they could contain and control the protest if west coast americans could make it to the nations capital without spending a months wage to get there.

elcanaco.bsky.social@elcanaco.bsky.social

Absolutely. Here in Canada, while we are frustrated that more Californians aren't protesting or actively trying to overthrow the US regime, we know that most Californians are good people. If you say you're from California, you're going to be treated with respect and politeness.

Republicans view their politicians as either monarchs or gods, but Democrats have a weird parental kink surrounding their civil servants, they want a mom or dad to come in and handle everything so they can go back to playing.

We are untrustworthy without a massive structural change in the government of the US. We have a 2 year budget cycle that cripples long term planning. Other countries have a 5 year, 10, year, 50 year plan and we cant count on anything that takes longer than 2 years maintaining funding.

Ron Richie@ronrichie.bsky.social

When trump is finally gone, it will take a long time and much difficulty to repair the damage the fool has done. The hardest part may be restoring our nation's image on the world stage, and convincing our former friends to trust us again.

this isnt a tactical win. a win is them cutting off the money spout for these operations. stick to british politics

Danielle Blake@abradacabla.bsky.social

Everyone from Gallego to Pritzker is screaming that ICE as it stands needs to go, then Bluesky got mad that they weren’t at protests, then Klobuchar got attacked *for attending a protest* instead of Doing Something, the Senate Dems Did Something and a major tactical win and it gets branded a cave.

Absolutely nothing since they stopped cutting their sandwiches with the U gouge and instead moved to the hinge cut, the most basic bitch of sandwich slicing methods.

Emilio Mejia@emilio-m.bsky.social

Now I'm thinking to myself, "Subway never shows the back of their sandwiches. What's going on back there Subway?"

Restaurants serving a food from a culture that isn't a large enough group in their area to support full blown authenticity should likely keep a sort of 'bridge item' on the menu that is familiar to the dominant culture just as a point of good business. The restaurant industry isn't forgiving.

Jaya Saxena@jayasaxena.com

As restaurants serving Indian cuisines continue to become some of the hottest reservations across the country, I wrote for @slate.com about their uneasy relationship to butter chicken. Or really, their uneasy relationship to what butter chicken has come to represent. slate.com/life/2025/10...

If you vote for me I'll bypass all that by simply leaking their full name and addresses while providing a full and retroactive pardon should anything untoward happen to DOGE staffers

Senator Dick Durbin@durbin.senate.gov

There is very little about this CR that I like—but there is even less I like about a government shutdown. With Trump & Musk taking a chainsaw to the government’s workforce & illegally freezing funding, the last thing we need to do is plunge our country into further chaos by shutting down the govt.

"Oh no, whatever shall we do, the NPR guy blocked us, who will we turn to for softball questions and both sidesing every issue!?"

Reagan quite literally committed high treason during Iran-Contra and got away with it because an underling (oliver north) was willing to take the fall and he got away with it because he had his secretary shred a ton of documents. Shitty post alan.
