American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to tailored suits and classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.

I'm at a punk show where the band brought out a big cardboard robot, introduced it as an AI music artist, then threw it into the pit to be destroyed

I have to admit that there's a real Colonial Williamsburg feel to being at a punk club and half the kids are dressed like they teleported from 1987, complete with leather jackets with the Adicts on the back.

Fascism and racism have really stepped up their games, huge strides being made there.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Is it against the TOS to say this man should be beaten to death?

CLAYFACE is more and more terrible the further I get from it, and I didn't like it very much when I walked out of the theater. It's boring, looks cheap a lot of the time, the leads are not good at all, and it manages to mix the worst aspects of mid-budget superhero and mid-budget horror movies.

Also the final Clayface form is kind of stupid because it inelegantly mixes the BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Clayface with face of the lead and it feels like two different designs jammed into one head.

There's some good violence and good body horror, but it amounts to around 3 minutes of the runtime. I enjoyed James Watkins' previous horror films, EDEN LAKE and THE WOMAN IN BLACK, but this is not a well directed film at all. Also most of the movie is an ugly color reminiscent of Piss Christ.

Just saw DIGGER and boy did I dislike it. Acknowledging that your movie is broad, unfunny and annoying does not make it good.

I feel this way about all movies, but most sharply about YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING: I do not care about your opinion if you have not seen the film. It is, in many ways, not what you might expect from just hearing about it. It needs to be experienced.

People have some platonic ideal of what a documentary is supposed to be, one that cannot exist because the introduction of a camera inherently changes the reality of the situation. Most of these people do not watch documentaries btw

It seems likely I will be forced into trying to write this for the umptymillionth time before the end of this awards cycle but here is my basic rubric: if you have a medium-level expectation that the people/things you see on screen happened in your space-time continuum, that is a documentary.

Hey west coast - my understanding is that tonight's Screen Unseen/Mystery Movie is a terrific movie with some Oscar juice.

It would be malpractice for YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING to not win the Best Doc Oscar. Not since Michael Moore has a documentary crossed over like this, and while it's funny the movie really gets at some deep philosophical questions about the nature of truth. Also there's a penis.

I hate the conspiracy plot in CRYSTAL LAKE but the violence is pretty excellent and I finally have a Pamela Voorhees I can have a crush on.

I don't usually do this but I hated this dude decades ago and got into a Twitter fight with him over his shitty SDCC activation and I feel so so so validated.

Who will the next White House press secretary be? An American Girl doll? A blonde scalp glued to a mop handle? An 8x11 photo of Megyn Kelly scotch-taped over a Speak & Spell? It's very exciting!

Last night at the SID & NANCY/REPO MAN double I was sitting a row ahead of a gaggle of generic white guys whose affectless non-regional voices were at top volume so everyone could hear their vapid conversation. One guy said he left Spotify for Tidal because Tidal markets to metalheads.

Another guy asked this "metalhead" (imagine: incredibly unremarkable white guy who works in a creative office) if he likes Anthrax and he says he doesn't like "that thrash stuff." Then they talked about not going to Hot Topic anymore.
