See, this is a thing I've said over and over: Automation is for extraction, not innovation. Once something is automated it is rented back to everyone. This has been software's way for 25 years. Some of us FOSS geeks have a long history of being pissed about that rent seeking.

beka valentine@bekavalentine.bsky.social

its very funny that there is now a claim that code is cheap because like.. you're still paying devs and now you're paying Anthropic too if you were a solo dev, code used to be free, you weren't paying yourself, but now you pay Anthropic code is actually more expensive now lol

Surely at a new meta layer you can be innovative with automation, but again this is only possible where the underlying models don't change.

The turing test is to be innovative, not to be "creative" through regurgitation. Most people don't even pass this, I think. If we can't pass it there's no way the abacus in our image can. Automating our contextual thought is control not innovation. It is extraction of our power to think.

"But innovation in medica--" I'm gonna stop you there, if you are seeing gains in understanding using automation then you are extracting from a specific model that which you hadn't logically concluded yet. It won't account for when that model is wrong. That's not innovation, that's extraction.

"But you can innovate once you automate a lot!" Yes, but only within that automations model of assumptions. That's a hard barrier, because automation doesn't account for changing context. Once context changes, a lot of automation has to be repaired in new ways. Still extraction, not innovation.

I am never going to understand British culinary choices when it seems like everyone over there hasn't realized rationing ended in 1948. Baked beans on toast. Y'all hate yourselves, I am convinced. JFC have a breakfast haggis, you wankers.

Everything said here is racist, wrong and stupid. It is the same things he says about autism: "contributes to society" is the bar for extermination. This is white supremacist fascism. This is ethnic cleansing. This is white mediocrity becoming violent at a lifetime of privilege celled to account.

RFK talks about autistic and Arabic people the exact same way. He assumes they are not capable of ordinary or extraordinary achievements because of who they are. He considers them sub-human because they are not like him. This makes it plain that his is a white supremacist eugenicist project.

Aside from the crushing wet smell of the Mead paper plant permeating the air, Chillicothe has also had to deal with collapsing economy and crime for 25 years. It does not deserve to have to host Trump.

Trump is coming to Chillicothe in two days to rally in a venue that holds 2400 people. 🤏

Richard Dawkins is 85 years old. The life expectancy of a man living in the UK is between 79 and 80. In all likelihood, he'll be dead soon. And I'll still be hot.

Minneapolis/Hennepin County needs to do something about contractors leaving big chunks of streets and sidewalks unpaved after work is ostensively competed.

My old boss once misspoke the past tense of "tweeting" as "twatting" and that was like almost a decade before Elon owned it but man Graziano called it early about that platform.

I spoke to the mom of the 3-year-old soccer star who was left "thinking he did something wrong" after a league official called police "due to a disturbance between parents" The youth sports league said they launched a review and reached out to the family

Minnesota loses a dentist and a family loses a father, just so some weasel can make their quota of forced deportations. His only crime, apparently, was being a Canadian who wanted to become a US citizen like the rest of his family. bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne...

I agree, but what exhausts me is that "No" is the one fucking word Republicans never listen to and we've been screaming it for a decade.

OK but my Jesuit education came with rampant misogyny, hyper-aggressive bullying and abuse. It came with teachers showing NAZI WW2 speeches in class w/o context because of what a "great public speaker" Hitler was. Perhaps the Jesuits needed to clean house a lot sooner than this.

Kirsten Bladh@kerstanley.bsky.social

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

I think the fact that Marissa Mayer would voluntarily disclose this to a reporter is a pretty good demonstration of how deeply the culture of Silicon Valley has diverged from the rest of humanity

These fucks knew that kid was autistic, and chose to do this. ICE is just permission to be a NAZI against anything "other." This is white supremacist fascism. This is ethnic cleansing. They will come for Autism also.

America is changing before our eyes in ways many of us never imagined. Things that should horrify us are becoming routine. The greatest danger is that we become so accustomed to others' suffering that we stop feeling it, stop questioning it, and lose touch with our own humanity.

What's the venn diagram on think-piece authors talking about how they use AI and narcissists outing themselves as shit parents?

Fuck ICE.

In my 40s my "starter" home was a jumbo loan. How are the kids supposed to afford this? I had to ride startups to acquisition.

I realize starter homes are an endangered species and the west coast is pricey but the lowest priced home in this story is $480,000 and includes one 20 miles outside Dallas.
