I think the fact that Marissa Mayer would voluntarily disclose this to a reporter is a pretty good demonstration of how deeply the culture of Silicon Valley has diverged from the rest of humanity

For AI to glean this information about the daughter, it had to be out there on the internet right? She is 10yo, what other information about this child is out there for all to see and AI to potentially abuse and mis-use?

Says it all: When I asked Mayer if it’s somewhat depressing to imagine a frictionless future when birthday celebrations, holiday gifts and family vacations are planned by A.I., she seemed caught off guard. “I haven’t really thought that through,” she said.

One of the best parts of the podcast of Xbox people was when @thevowel.com & Stepto (RIP) would discuss Redmond's "Reality Distortion Field", specifically the open issue where a MS engineer screamed about how Xbox wouldn't work right on MS Proxy Server. What seems normal "inside" is not normal.

AI people live in a bubble and don't know how much they and their product is loathed by the rest of the world. I went to a Laura Ramosa show with audience participation and two people said they worked in AI and the entire theater booed them. They could have just said they developed software 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

By contrast the guy who said he was a "performer" but wouldn't say what kind (clearly he was a sex worker of some stripe) got thunderous applause. It was a proud night to be a Portlander 😆

It's certainly not new that managers would have their assistants handle personal stuff - guarantee more than one of these has been done by an executive secretary - but the managers weren't bragging about it interviews

In all fairness I have a friend that works in AI at Google and has a daughter he has a warm close relationship with. Let’s try not to generalize off edge cases.

this is... horrifying. also, confirming of the emerging sentiments wrt the *reality* that pseudo-reality AI is stupid. would most definitely be bullied on the playground of REAL life!! so is - & would - marissa mayer, fwiw.

The fact the child's mother hadn't a clue about ANYTHING about her kid is fairly appalling - the brat IS after all supposed to become a contributing member of society. That's not happening with this one.

We’ve gone from hearing stories about how tech execs were keeping the devices they were making away from their children to letting those devices raise their children in astonishingly quick time. For those against regulation of this industry, pay attention

Tell me you’ve never lived in Silicon Valley without telling me you’ve never lived in Silicon Valley. There’s 4M of us here and the vase majority of us don’t raise their kids using AI.

Yeah, you’re right! I really admire your good sense of humor, and you have such a nice profile. If you don’t mind, I’d love to get a follow from you. Thanks, and I hope we can connect! 😊

Nah. Plenty of people who work in CS/IT still actually care making quality products & making the world better/solving issues. Its the executives across most companies that see everyone else as a resource or a cost, & beyond that give zero consideration to the long term outcomes of their choices.

As somebody who spent some time on the other side of Valley ( as mechanical engineer in Chevron then hq in San Ramon) ,most of those types i met ( in 2010) were flat out frauds & conman. Even those with actual CS degrees, not to mention pretendengineer dropouts etc.

Many years ago I met a young g man whose parents were a CEO and his third trophy wife. As a child he rarely saw his parents. He was raised by a nanny with the aid of other servants, all of them undocumented immigrants. As a child he only spoke Spanish. No English speaking people to talk to!

He had to take English as a second language in kindergarten! As an adult he didn’t have contact with his mother and could barely remember her. He did have regular contact with his nanny, who got a green card and later a family of her own. He only communicated with his father through their lawyers.

He had a trust fund bit enough to live well without working, but worked anyway to fit in with his friends. Sometimes he would just give his trust fund money away to people he thought needed it more. He was a bit weird, but seemed alright. My bet is he was happier than his parents.

If I'd told my 10 yo,.now 27, daughter this, she would have given me a 5 minute long, zero pause dressing down. I'd.still be getting over it now. "Diverged" is an interesting word for "disappeared"

They are no longer human. More like an invasive species. You know what we do with invasive species? Remove them. Definition: “An invasive species is a species that causes harm to the environment, economy, or human, animal, or plant health”

Dazzle AI is based on your photographs. It's not surprising that the response was a simplistic "empathic, creative and an animal lover." Mayer likely has pictures of her daughter hugging someone, showing off an art project, and playing with pets.

As a parent who has been in this exact position: YIKES! It really is a very hard question to answer, but that’s the point. Teachers want insight into how the kids are being supported at home and their other most important relationship. Instead of giving insight, AI Mommy abdicated her parenting.

marissa or her staff invented this story for the press. silicon valley types NEVER use their own product, and certainly not when it involves their own children.

Not an attempt to target her for being a woman, but if you're a CEO, you're not raising your kids at all anyway. You've got people you're paying to do that.

What that shows you that Silicon Valley died in 08. And resurrected as Silly Con Valley, driven by 0% money to VC ghouls and congregation of greedy scum from entire planet. The real ticker that those are somehow simultaneously also some of the fkin stupidest humans ever. Thats a real insult.

I'm going to keep posting this until someone notices: "Funny how that happens when you make folks rich, famous and adored for their 'genius' in creating 'better than human' circuitry. It's almost like they start thinking *nothing* real has value. 😏"

[whispers]: aauuutissmmmmm.... More and more of our "people in power" seem to be on the spectrum and human empathy seems to be a lacking trait across the board. And to be clear, this is less Mayer and more Zuck, Musk, Bezos, Altman... the Tech Bro type.

And I'm a 50 year old man that is just recently starting evaluations myself. It's almost like the change in our national food systems back in the 70s have really fucked people up.

Feeling overwhelmed about the range and complexity for answers about a 10 year old is a wild admission. Literally just be around one for 5 minutes. That's the depth of their human experience

She's just displaying the intellectual laziness that these people in silicone valley hope to live in forever, while creating a stupid society that deems their individual idiocy superior over those who buy the bullshit they sell....

fam member helping me with an issue suggested I consult ai..I texted back what do you mean comes back check with ChatGPT Claude Gemini? let them know I've been solving my problems all my life..research possible answers, choose answer, implement correct answer wth..they have 3 teens worried😐for them
