The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

People abroad don't understand the level of interference Meta & bots had in these elections. 5 days before the election a far-right politician posted a fake news video that got 157 MILLION views on Instagram in 24hs. For reference, GTA 6's reveal trailer got 90 million views on YouTube in 24hs.

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

Fallout from the Starlink restrictions could hit US weapons exports such as the F-35. There were already concerns that the F-35 has a built-in software kill switch. And the US actions on Starlink just turned that risk from theoretical to something proven and real. Very costly choice by the US.

I dreamt that Shohreh Aghdashloo wrote a fantasy novel set in ancient Persia. Nobles vied to collect Tiger Stones, which gave knowledge of all magic within a particular region, as well as other gifts. "One gives you an antiques shop," she said with a wry smile.

Laughter is like kryptonite for fascists.

i know there's all kinds of apps people use to block their internet, but physically putting a framed print of Carolyn Drake's "Door to Hell" over the entire monitor whenever i don't want to use the computer has been working pretty well here

Hey, remember how in the backstory of Cyberpunk 2077, rogue AIs rendered the global internet unusable? Well…

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

The Dutch were only able to do this because Jared Kushner's phone had already been hacked by the Russians. Trump admin, famously clean on opsec

I started watching s2 of Monarch last night, and the writer was maybe a little too fond of his movie quotes. “All other priorities rescinded.” “Look at the size of that thing!” Plus ignoring advice to push the ship’s engines past 100% in a sea chase felt… familiar.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Two publishers, two projects; both have left me hanging for weeks/months. One has just pulled the plug. The other cut the project's page count by two-thirds. So my next 12 issues of planned work is now 2 issues. And suddenly I'm wondering how I'm going to pay for Christmas. Fuck.

These things happen, of course. It's all part of the freelancer life. I guess it just stings because both of these projects were initiated by the publishers. They reached out to me. I've wasted so much time on this. And time is money.

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Coyote vs Acme is now Warner Bro's best performing movie this summer and they nearly threw it out for a tax writeoff Warner Bros:

ToonHive@toonhive.bsky.social

‘Coyote vs. Acme’ has officially surpassed ‘Supergirl’ ($126M) worldwide, making it the summer’s highest-grossing film produced by Warner Bros. But it’s distributor Ketchup Entertainment benefiting from its theatrical release.

Also tossed out was a Ouija board, complete with box. And every time she tried to throw it out, it would re-appear - sometimes on top of the empty bins, once in the open garage. I was, naturally accused, but legit had nothing to do with it. IT KEPT COMING BACK…
