"anger at Yglesias is merited his entire project amounts to perpetually linking Dems electoral missteps to particular groups that "savvy" politics love to hate he is hugely influential in top circles beating heart of the hippie-punching industrial complex his political philosophy is very harmful

Yglesias admitted getting to feel like a rebel while being on the side of power bsky.app/profile/mich... bsky.app/profile/jaim... Iraq: "Being for the war was a way to simultaneously be a free-thinking dissident in the context of a college campus and also be on the side of the country’s power elite

They told everyone what the plan was: adoption. ACB said drop the baby off at the fire station. Alito cited the need for "domestic supply of infant" who would find "suitable homes" with millions of couples seeking them. Everyone forgot that, it seems. We 🥚s didn't. They weren't abstract about it.

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

📌Now that you soft-ballers in the press FINALLY understand this felon is playing hardball, it's time for you to band together and refuse to cover the WH. Start calling it the way WE see it. The way it IS: A lawless regime hellbent on destroying this country. Get your heads out of your asses.

Donating $10 or $20 to a state legislative candidate has a bigger bang for the buck than it does for a U.S. Senate or House candidate, because legislative candidates late more likely to use the money for direct grassroots organizing & outreach—canvassing, phone banking, pizza for volunteers etc.

🥚 You know those days that we're all glad to mostly see the back of, when women had no choices, and we had even less? Those days which governments have been increasingly apologising for? Let's bring those back, yeah, says a Shadow minister in the UK www.neilobrien.co.uk/p/bring-back...

This is the newspaper that brought down Nixon.

I am almost without words for what has become of this once proud newspaper. I will only say this: Support independent media. Subscribe to Democracy Docket. demdock.com/4w6emld

It's so blazingly obvious that this is true. A university lecturer being fired for plagiarism would not be national news >99% of the time. It was inflated into one this time purely because it fit into racist "culture war" narratives about "DEI".

Nadine Batchelor-Hunt@nadinebh.bsky.social

No, that is not the alternative The alternative was treating like a normal news story, and not a trial by media - one that was so clearly turbocharged by Arday’s ethnic and social background and the growing resentment in the establishment in the UK of having more black people in high places

I think what’s most surreal about watching the Graham Platner debacle … Black people were completely horrified

San Alito prepping to interview law clerks. “How many potential clerks are we interviewing today?” “Five, Mr. Justice.” “Then get me six puppies.” “But there are only five candidates, sir.” “What, now I don’t get to kill a puppy?”

it's not exactly surprising that michael tracey read an incel mass shooter's manifesto against sluts and thought "wow, this guy has some good ideas!"

What are the odds of TWO master orators married to one another? Listening to them speak was uplifting, inspirational and exhilarating. A reminder of another, better time when leaders spoke to our better angels & offered hope & optimism rather than divisive vulgarisms. #ChangeIsComingNovember3rd

Michelle Obama: You were doing the people's work, rescuing our economy, expanding health care, ending a war, ordering the bin laden raid, saving an auto industry, winning a peace prize.

lost track of the cite (goddamnit) but recently came across a fascinating look at the economics of monasteries in medieval europe they're a great source not least because we have relatively good data on income and expenses so let's talk watermills, investment, and economic growth
