“If you have nothing positive to say, say nothing” which is why I’m not posting much at present. Also I’m working, hurrah (this photo was taken a couple of weeks back). More on that to come.

The risk here is that Radio Comedy - a distinct art in its own right with its own discipline and method - is relegated to another layer of television's development substrata.

Do not trust the polls. Do not allow yourself to become complacent. Vote early — and get your friends and family to vote. Do not let Elon, Big Tech, Big Oil, AI, and the billionaire class buy this election. We outnumber them — and we're the only ones that can put an end to this nightmare.

Hear Hear.

The BBC Charter states that BBC is supposed to provide programmes that no one else does. They don't have to be the favourite of all as long as they're the favourite of some. You can get podcasts anywhere. We want our beautifully curated Radio4 Extra.

If closing surely the least expensive radio channel the BBC has (run by a tiny number of people, broadcasting the work of mainly dead people), bothers you, then why not sign this petition you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...

Not sure how much money closing Radio 4 extra will save. I am happy to forgo my £22 a year from repeat fees if that helps.

Attention Scottish voice actors! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎤 We’re gearing up to cast an upcoming project, which will require an (almost) all Scottish cast! So watch this space, if it’s nae bother.

I’m “SNF” - Staff No Fee for Radio 4 Extra repeats of stuff like Flywheel, Shyster & Flywheel but I’d pay £22 a year towards keeping R4Extra going.

Alison says it all. Radio 4 Extra wasn’t an apocryphal service for superannuated listeners. It was a cultural resource and a reminder of a braver, expertly curated BBC.

Alison@alisondennison.bsky.social

I'll miss Radio 4extra. I don't think its listeners will transfer to seeking the same stuff out on BBC Sounds. That's not how it works. The station introduces listeners to stuff. And I'm using the plural because individual algorithms are a lonely replacement. I don't want to be a listener (singular)

Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and then post a picture of a boat you like. Climbing aloft to reef the mainsail on the now sadly mothballed tall ship Tenacious, 40 feet above a rolling deck and scared shitless.

Go to your camera roll and search “boat” and then post a picture of a boat you like. From my trip to the Rijksmuseum back in March.

The coolest thing you’ll see today.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

I don’t want something that demented nazi has a controlling interest in. I want this. With this pilot.

This is AWFUL — it’s exhausting being an author in the age of mass AI copyright fraud. If you can, support Alex (a real historian) against the fake copy 👇

Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

From The Times obit for Esther Rantzen. Nothing against Ms Rantzen but us dogsbodies trained for 9 months to “do the chores” and would like to see the obit writer survive “Red Light Fever” and operate the panel in a busy studio live on air or create believable sound effects for a convincing drama.

Very very sad news. We have lost Tony De Meur - aka Ronnie Golden, he of The Fabulous Poodles, all round lovely human - and the world is a sadder place. Surely right now he is in a celestial bar swapping parrot jokes with Baz Cryer over a double.

Crikey - I don’t have copies of some of these titles

Was chatting to a friend the other day about the @dirkmaggs.bsky.social audio dramas that used to go out on Radio 1 afternoons in the mid 90s* knew I had some if them somewhere so dug them out & found a few more besides (happy to find I hadn't lost The Quatermass Memoirs )

Dave Gibbons making this point about Lichtenstein made me very happy.

Ste Jormur@stejormur.bsky.social

I'd never seen this Roy Lichtenstein painting before, but it's incredible how he manages unfailingly to make his copies worse than the original comics he's ripping off.

The irony of Canada and the EU talking about free movement and a closer association while the nation that created the “British Commonwealth” conned itself into self-imposed exile and sits alone on the bench, sulking.

My new exhibition of paintings opens on Monday! I'll post the online version of the exhibition that evening. Here's hoping it goes down well. 🤞 Aside from Labyrinth, can you guess any of the other fantasy classics from the last 100 years which I've chosen? There are 22 of them in all.
