The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

Doing a training for public defenders through Gideon’s Promise. Just noted that in the late 50s and 60s there were lots of TV shows and movies and even comic books about public defenders and defense attorneys. Yet now we are in year 30 or so of Law & freaking Order.

They're doing a form of racism on the other site where you pretend that jet aircraft and helicopters don't exist. (the one-upsmanship at the bottom is pretending that repeating firearms and modern artillery doesn't exist as well)

Everyone’s mad at Danny Trejo for signing on to Ben Shapiro’s pro-ICE movie but now his son reveals how Shapiro’s team tricked an old man into doing this 😡

Our 17 year old son got back from soccer practice yesterday and said his stomach was hurting. He quite quickly became overwhelmed with pain. He has endured a few injuries as an athlete, and I have never seen him in so much pain. Took him to the ED to find out he had appendicitis. Crazy how quick…

It was a long night in the ED, though. But since they didn’t have a bed for him last night, he was never admitted and his surgery was outpatient. Had there been a bed and he had been admitted, he might have stayed for like 3 days. Same surgery. Our health care system makes no sense.

This entire discourse is fucking hilarious.

Shredded wheat is an insane concept. "Yeah I want a fucking log of hay in a box. For my breakfast." Fuck outta here. Crazy assholes.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

I actually agree with this. Will Stancil says some smart things and some things that aren’t. His inability to listen to anyone who disagrees with him is annoying. He actually has convictions, which is good. But he can be a little like MattY in how he interacts on here.

dame@dame.is

the more i learn about will stancil, the more confused i am by this website’s insane and disproportionate fixation on hating him a high degree of stancil fixation seems to be correlated with having a deeply unhealthy relationship to social media and an increased likelihood of engaging in bad faith

I don’t actually mean to imply that Will is anywhere near the arrogant, ghoulish, asshole MattY is. Only that he can be annoying in his interactions, especially in areas beyond his expertise. Worth muting. Not worth blocking. Certainly not deserving of all the hate he gets. Not even close.

No, you can’t. The line on immigration is exactly what fuels the fascists. The line is ‘immigrants are bad’. That’s a fascist line.

Alasdair Cameron@alasdaircameron.bsky.social

You can stick to the line on migration but still call out fascists.

as always the problem here is lumping in immoral and unethical with illegal, which I'd argue is actually part of a Huntingtonian two step intended to let GOFOs off the hook

I appreciate @hcrichardson.bsky.social for highlighting this issue, but this figure & history is not quite right. After the earthquake in 2010, the Obama admin granted TPS, then as the recovery stumbled amid cholera outbreaks, granted it again in 2011. Roughly 50,000 people got TPS then. 1/

Has anybody seen these “Department of War” commercials? JFC, they are horrible. Like a bad trailer to a B war movie. And “war.gov”? Fuck these guys. Seriously.

You've been hearing the story about how Dolly Parton turned down Elvis when his people demanded a chunk of her royalty rights in exchange for recording "I Will Always Love You". That reminded me of something I've wondered about for a long time. The guy who actually put the ask on Dolly was a ...

It’s genuinely difficult to articulate how evil destroying USAID was. And it’s weird bc some people are so committed to the US anti-imperial angle that they skip right over the “literally the worst excesses of capitalism, the world’s richest man just decided to turn off money to poor people” angle.

Watching the movie The French Dispatch for the first time in a long while. It’s such a brilliant movie, as most of Wes Anderson’s movies are. This is one of his best, though.

one part “my green room friends thought it was mean,” one part debilitating fear of backlash. inability to see that ossof successfully goaded the white house into *being reactive* and thus revealing that there is a story here

My kid made the varsity soccer team today. And while I am proud of him, we are not crazy sports parents. He plays because he likes it. But what I realize is that there aren’t that many soccer games if his left to see. Going to his games is one of my favorite things in the world.

I find it fascinating that of all motor sports, it’s drag racing that has a large number of women drivers at the top of the sport. Like you can name 4 or 5 women in the top 15 or so drivers in every class. No other motor sport has any women at all anywhere near the top and never have.

America was never going to truly become a Soccer Nation until we strong-armed FIFA in a completely corrupt transaction that benefits us at the expense of the concept of fairness. So, congrats to us!
