Understanding the van Laarhoven representation of Optics was the closest thing I've ever had to a religious experience; which is sad really

Yesterday, I walked the Bakerloo Line with my sister, and took some photos of the TFL roundels (warning, flashing images)

Is the font "Roboto" called that because of the link to Android? or because it was designed by Christian Robertson?

So a man who earns enough to be one of top 100 taxpayers in the country via a business handed to him for free paid £12m in tax whilst creaming £100m in handouts from the state. And we're supposed to be lauding him for his transparency and not looting the palaces?! What a deeply unserious country.

gimp is kinda jank yeah but when people have Serious Takes about how it needs to improve all i can read is "here is how these four guys working intermittently for free have FAILED to live up to the international company making twenty billion dollars a year"

GIMP is objectively unintuitive and also can’t parse text layers of PSDs properly, it’s designed by FOSS people that have never created tools for professionals. Telling someone to use it for their job is like saying you can make a feature on iMovie. Technically true but not serious.

The past years have seen horrendous attacks towards trans people. We have a duty to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities. There is no Haskell without the trans people who have shaped it through the years. This June is a month of celebrations, but the struggle continues. ✊🏳️‍⚧️λ

Who's supposed to press it? The new joiner? The server owner? Anyone? Is it a faux pas for the wrong person to press it? or to press it twice? Is there one consistent set of rules, or does it vary between servers?

I _kind of get where this is coming from_, but even ignoring the whole "jumping through hoops to satisfy AI companies" angle Did we have to pick a format that consist of about 100 different, unstandardized variants

So Markdown is getting a glow-up right now, thanks to (wait for it) AI. But I think it could end up being great for the Web even if you don’t care about AI. tedium.co/2026/02/17/m... new @tedium.co
