i had to rewrite this because i originally just said "can have contact with" and i know that some dingus would have pointed out that you could have always written letters, if you didn't mind the 4-week ping time

Unless something goes horribly wrong, I'll be presenting Wizarducks at Game-A-Palooza in Brooklyn tomorrow (...today?) afternoon! If you're in the area, come say hello! #gamedev #indiedev

There's also a pretty good chance I'll be at the GameMaker/NYU playtest event the next day. If you can't make it to the event, the playtest demo will be live on Steam later this week, it has a few fixes, some improved visuals, and a new puzzle area to explore: store.steampowered.com/app/2769920/...

There was a period when Nora was in middle school when she was obsessed with Pi and could recite it to 30 digits and so of course when she saw this strip she knew what she had to do.

From Oct 2011. Happy Pumpkin Pi season! Annual reminder: magnets of this strip are available on my store... store.foxtrot.com

In Mario Kart Wii, asphalt is slightly shiny, reflecting a band of light ahead of the player. This is implemented cleverly by leveraging something that the Wii is already doing, allowing it to not need to use any sort of additional lighting or post-processing.

of all of the "who asked for this" tech i've seen in the last four years, a recap of the last 15 seconds takes the cake

Andrew Couts@couts.bsky.social

NEW: The new Apple Watches double as AI-powered listening bugs for generating convo "recaps" or transcripts of any previous 15 seconds. But fear not, Apple says, this data isn't sent to Apple/gets encrypted, speakers aren't ID'd, and there's a chime for the 15-second thing. @lhn.bsky.social reports:

Hey GameMaker gang we're cooking up more stream plans and we'd love to do a Q&A answering as many of your questions as we can. So fire over your questions and keep your eyes peeled for the stream announcement!

i think i've changed my mind about being nice online. i might go as far to say that as people who care about knowing how/why things work, we're ethically obligated to go out of our way to remind sloperators that we are, in fact, better than them at everything

I see my color scheme and visuals from my own videos taken directly and replicated by AI generated content on splines I now get people asking me what prompt I used in my math animations

older games often have a display centric approach to real-time rendering, like, painting lighting into object textures was very common, or straight up using photographs as textures this lets you take very direct control over the look! modern rendering is different (short thread)

Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer (2002) how the did they get the water to look like that, this is incredible I don't mean the reflections, look at the shape of the wave as it moves, the lighting, the glow.. This and the game loop are **amazing** and needs to be studied This is lost technology oh my god

This is Hina, Sasha, Momo, and Kikko. They just got in line behind their turtle friend. Not sure what the line is even for, but man is it moving slow. 12/10 for all (IG: yokokikuchi_ks)

i think a lot about why generative AI feels qualitatively different from most other New Technologies in the last 50 years, this is probably why

Freya HolmΓ©r@freya.bsky.social

I think what is happening, is that AI is devaluing the entire concept of truth, knowledge, and craftsmanship we're probably in for an informational dark age of absolutely unprecedented mass alienation and detachment from society

Some areas in Paper Mario feature a rim lighting effect that is achieved in a manner that is extremely simple for the surprisingly effective results it produces, being simply shifting around a shadow copy of the sprite.

β€œthis album just came and went” β€œremember this month old game?” PLEASE. let art live and exist!! forever!! what a miserable way to live, to bounce from new thing to new thing, rapidly consuming art as trends and not allowing yourself to fully experience a story and reflect on it as it settles

The Best Tool trophy for GMRoomLoader just arrived last night! There's something special about holding a physical object as the result of work that only ever exists on a screen. Thank you to everyone who voted, and to the @gamemaker.io team for making this happen! #GameMaker

In Super Mario 64 DS, giant characters normally cannot crawl. However, reading a sign pounded halfway into the ground forces the character into a crawling pose. When giant, this results in the character's giant posterior completely blocking the entire screen.
