Despite intense efforts by both the Trump administration and years of Russian influence operations, the Canadian province of Alberta has voted not to secede from Canada.

I’m just trying to ignore the whole Alberta referendum-on-having-a-referendum-to-separate from Canada. The thought of my home province one day separating is too unbearable and is just so so deeply stupid.

My 10 year old brought home a recorder from school. Am I teaching her to play the song Picard played on his flute in the episode “Inner Light”? Yes, yes I am.

As someone who has owned a small white dog, I love that Cranach has painted the tear stains. Also, this dog is judging us and finding us wanting.

People love to talk shit about the version of Toronto they made up in their own minds, but the truth is that it is a safe city full of people who care about each other who are constantly having to fight back against our own governments and the suburban and rural voters who elect them in spite of us.

I love my 10 year old. She told me she and 6 of her friends want to write a manga about themselves titled “The Seven Deadly Idiots”. Not going to lie - would read.

Grateful and excited to have been included in this fantastic @folger.edu series!

Scholar @ruben-espinosa.bsky.social explores all we gain when we build a bigger bookshelf—one that includes Shakespeare and the many different voices that have followed. Read his blog, part of our America's Next 250 blog series: www.folger.edu/blogs/shakes...

She’s here, Saige Scott, a 4-month-old ball of curly fluff who is queen of the side eye and impossible to photograph lol. You will have to trust me that she’s gorgeous. I have longed for another dog for years - and that’s a testament to how wonderful our first dog Scarlett was.

It is Truth and Reconciliation Day here in Canada. It is not enough to right past wrongs, but it is still necessary. I know from experience that there are still people out there who don’t believe that residential schools were traumatic and genocidal.

In many ways, the only thing boys need to learn are the lessons we already teach girls. They need to learn to be part of a community. And if they understand that, then the lessons on consent and sexual violence come naturally.

A year ago I would never have imagined that this year I’d be dreading the last regular season for the Jays due to worry that the fans will boo Vladdy. That’s baseball for you.

A thing Donald Trump doesn’t understand: we need to fiercely protect our French language requirements. It’s the only thing preventing Doug Ford from running for Prime Minister.

We don’t have our new family member yet, but I got an update on her and picture of her today. I’m thoroughly smitten and can tell she’s a very good girl.

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

I wanted to rescue a dog, but that’s more challenging than I thought it would be, especially when one rescue org is run by a terrible human and you don’t hear back from any others. So we found this sweetie from a reputable breeder and will donate to the Toronto humane society instead.

For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.
