Alright. Hello BlueSky! I’m a reporter focusing on environment/science & rural affairs. Working for the BBC in Birmingham. Looking to find some West Mids/Science/Farming people on here. And for downtime any discussion of active travel and cycle lanes. We need a cargo bike emoji.

The cuts being made at the BBC are unforgivable. They are putting it into a death spiral. The weaker it gets, the less people will want to support it. And yes, this is an issue for the Government, which likes to pretend it's not their problem. It is.

I was at a birthday party at the weekend where the cake was a giant edible Ferraro Roche. The outside was a crispy gold chocolate shell over a hazelnut mousse sponge cake. It was extraordinary

And the freaking greatest thing I have ever seen: this intersection has a traffic signal that is set by DEFAULT for pedestrians and cyclists, cars have to activate to cross. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Goodness me. The fuss and mayhem that comes from building something so relatively simple as a cycle lane in this country is unbelievable! Imagine if we built roads at this pace! Nobody would be driving. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I assume there's some sort of reason for this? Perhaps if they opened this stretch now they whole project will only have taken three years and they really want to hit five?

Like London, Paris has rapidly expanded its network of cycle lanes. It was great to get out and try them. Really inspiring but, like London, still lots to do - felt a bit scary at some of the junctions. #2CyclingCities

It’s always inspiring seeing what other cities do to make streets safer. In Paris, it’s impossible not to notice the ubiquitous zebra crossings that help give pedestrian priority on side roads. I’m delighted we’re working with Dept Transport to start trialing these at scale in London.

What’s interesting is we went inside becuse we were eating next door. And my friend said “I always mean to come in here when I’m driving past but never do”. People in cars aren’t ever potential customers.

Paris is showing how to make cities healthier and more child-friendly. More than 300 school streets are now car-free and give space to trees, play, and safe walking/cycling. The aim goes far beyond traffic safety: cleaner air, less noise, and more independence for children.

Most of these violations were recorded around the corner from where I live, on a street my kids need to cross - with no pedestrian crossing - every day to catch the bus to school. The danger these drivers represent can and should be drastically reduced through infrastructural intervention.

Of nearly 19,000 driving violations captured over two weeks, precisely zero drivers were prosecuted. This is because there isn't enough back-office capacity at West Midlands Police, and the process to issue fines hasn't kept pace with camera tech. www.bbc.com/news/article...
