HI HELLO happy International Workers' Day!
i'm so excited to say this is finally happening! After so much time and energy with these wonderful friends, we're launching our non-profit worker-owned co-operative to do journalism the way we want to do journalism.
This International Workers’ Day, we're putting media back in workers’ hands.
De Facto Journalism Co-op is a new non-profit of 6 worker-owners producing in-depth journalism focused on justice issues and systems of power.

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.
I wrote a story in 2016 looking at response times in Fraser Health and was stunned how bad they were — in a B.C. Liberal heartland no less. Felt like such an easy target for winning over communities for the NDP and yet…
Seeing a lot of fear-mongering on my timeline tonight from trans folks and allies outside of B.C.
Yes, this result is what it is. But this is not a “stockpile your HRT now” situation. And I think suggesting people do that is uneccessary and actively harmful to people who actually live here.
imagine your legacy being using your political career to undermine your entire pre-politics career just so you can make the most humiliating blunder and lose to a party that was on the verge of collapse
well, guess all you can do is wish the BC conservatives good luck as they work to uhh (skimming thru their online presence and recent party history) immediately become hobbled by infighting over what's the right way to do racism then self immolate before any of em find out what government is exactly
idk that it's all that significant that is the first "Conservative" government since 1928, when our last conservative government ended in 2017. we traded one conservative party for another
Disastrous, but this is BC’s tangible shift right under the NDP coming due. Pro-police, anti-harm reduction messaging has been driving politics in that province for years. The NDP has folded to it each time. Now BC learns what it’s like to live under the UCP.
if you vote Green you're wasting the vote rightfully owed to the NDP and it's your fault if the Conservatives win no shut up we will not talk about our environment policies
"[Rep. Teresa] Leger Fernández said the [Justice for Citizens Wrongfully Detained by ICE Act] would roll back the protections from lawsuits that agents and the federal government currently have. It would also establish a minimum level of compensation for people who win their suits[.]"
NEW: We recently reported that more than 500 American citizens have been detained by immigration agents.
Now House members are moving to make it easier for those detained to seek justice through the courts.
BREAKING: Duncan Kinney has pled guilty to mischief in relation to the vandalism of the bust of Roman Shukhevych outside the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex in August 2021.
Story has been updated with more back story and the surveillance stills captured at the scene.
Also, for the record, Progress Report and Press Progress are not the same thing.

Victoria denies that its bylaw officers put unhoused people’s new, perfectly good tents in the trash.
So we tracked them with AirTags.

NEW: Mark Carney’s government lobbied Ecuadorian officials to ‘urgently’ speed up approvals for Canadian mining projects last year.
The push came after Ecuador’s right-wing government cracked down on Indigenous protesters opposed to Canadian mines. www.readthemaple.com/liberals-pus...
City of Vancouver: “Preliminary results show 29,096 ppl turned out today: four record-breaking advance voting days in a row.

Oh, wow: The BC Greens are putting up former chief coroner Lisa Lapointe as their candidate in Saanich South, which means she will be up against NDP candidate and former legislative reporter Richard Zussman, and Conservative candidate Cathie Ounsted
"You selflessly put yourselves to the side for this cause, and it's something that most people wouldn't do,” Justice Murray said in court.
"You should be very proud of yourselves. It’s people like you who make a difference - and it has.”
