A month later, but this is still a pretty good time to plant some avocado trees! If anyone in the Seattle area wants to give it a try, hmu (warning: they will probably die, of cold or of drought, but by then you'll be hooked on growing avocados and you'll probably come get twice as many next year)

Just re-upping this reminder now that we're nearing the end of the dry season. It's a good time to plant some little avocado trees!

I am very done with this discourse and ready to focus on avocados for a bit, but here's my final take on the LCS discourse

I don't know any of the people who made the website, but I recognized most of the orgs and therefore assumed that the people making the website are trying to align with those groups. That's it! If you don't see the groups and have that same reaction, then no, maybe this isn't the tool for you?

I would love to see one of the state-wide public lands organizations take up the fight to regain public access to all of Washington’s beaches. #RightToRoam

Local fire and EMS were called, Border Patrol told them to leave. BP is gassing and shooting pepper balls at people on private property, and moving the truck with the person still locked to it. Go follow tierralibre_no borders and rally.forthevalley on IG for updates.

🚨 Latest from the border wall blockade: tree sit is still up, one land defender is locked down to machinery, Border Patrol has wrapped a Mylar blanket around them and is running the truck and pumping the blanket full of exhaust to try to gas them out, potentially killing them.

This morning, at least 50 armed Border Patrol agents, including BORTAC, raided the border wall resistance camp and tree sit in Lochiel, Arizona, attacking and arresting land defenders and cutting down the last “grandmother” cottonwood that stood in the path of Trump's double wall on the U.S. side.

In my 20 years engaging with nonprofits serving the #immigration space, I hadn't seen anything like this. So I had to write about it. Thanks to all who shared what they knew, often a significant personal risk. #icewatch

Washington Immigration Solidarity Network is reportedly in "financial freefall" and laid off 14 workers on Wednesday (18 total this year), many who were involved in a unionization effort. @viacedar.bsky.social has the story for @thestranger.com www.thestranger.com/news/immigra...

Hey @mayor.seattle.gov can we please have a total ban on all ALPR technology in our city? Anything less is complicity with fascism.

BREAKING: The Trump administration is using a grant program from the 1980s to force cities around the US to funnel their ongoing collection of Flock, Axon, and other ALPR data into large federal surveillance centers that fall under the White House’s jurisdiction, 404 Media has learned

I should also add that when the movie got to showing people burning Teslas and vandalizing dealerships, the theater of mostly older folks in Santa Monica started applauding. I think it is possible Trump and Musk turned libs over 50 into John Brown.

Nobody — not teachers, not retirees, nobody — will be taxed under the Millionaires Tax unless they make more than a million dollars per year, and voters will always have the final say on any changes to that threshold. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to you.

For some reason the pinned skeet about joining the avocado project has self-deleted, so I guess I'll make another one! If you live in USDA zone 8b or above in Cascadia and you want to torture some baby avocado trees in the name of science, slip into the DMs!

people are always saying anti-AI arguments don’t understand the full nuances of the technology. which is correct. but only because it stole everyone’s work, exists solely to get you fired, has made the entire internet unusable and has been forced on everyone without consent

Trying something a little different for the 2027 tree distribution: these are all rooted cuttings of either named varieties or selections in this project. The total number of surviving cuttings are similar to the number of seeds typically started each fall for this project

Far right billionaires want to replace journalists, writers, artists, and educators with "A.i." because THEY CAN CONTROL THE OUTPUTS. They want compliance. They want to limit what people are even capable of thinking. Consumer-facing "A.i." is a tool of fascists. Reject it for that reason alone.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

Our whole digital world has been wrapped in chains by rent-extracting monopolists who gloried in their power to use hook IP to deprive you of the right to use your property in ways you see fit, writing private laws that made it a crime to displease them. 87/

Some of the most well-known NoBlogs sites belong to researchers who solely report on far-right hate and radicalization, never doing anything aside from showing you what exists. Using speech to to shine a light and hold people accountable IS effective. Never let them try to convince you otherwise.

The US government has designated the Italian collective Autistici/Inventati, which produces the infrastructure of NoBlogs.org, a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist," freezing their assets and prohibiting all transactions with them——citing their "far-left" politics for justification.

Part 2! Today we’re taking a look at Steve Gordon (and his father Larry, mother Virginia, and brother Scott), the #2, #6, #7, #26 top donors to "Let's Go Washington", a right wing extremist group that funds anti-trans, anti-tax, and pro-climate-arson initiatives in WA. Their 2026 total: $525,000.

"Let's Go Washington" is a right wing extremist group that funds anti-trans, anti-tax, and pro-climate-arson initiatives in WA state every year. @broccoliwizard.bsky.social has a great thread👇 on some bigger donors. I wanted to focus on the BIGGEST 25 donors. Who are they? How did they get rich?

Too many people sincerely saying this one about the West Seattle light rail lately 😥

17. we should give up on overbudget transit infrastructure projects that have gotten delayed too much; like california highspeed rail or ballard link.

Bad news that this little creep has been found in Washington state.

There has never been a successful eradication of the emerald ash borer, a metallic green beetle that feeds on wood, according to the state’s Department of Agriculture. The insect has wiped out more than 100 million ash trees in the United States since its initial detection 20 years ago.

I waded into some replies, so I want to make clear that in the War on Cars, I am 100% on team pedestrian/cyclist. BUT... I am also never going to support an expansion of the surveillance state in the name of road safety. I'd rather ban cars entirely! So now I'll get back to avocados.
