“Crowbar the long arc of the moral universe toward justice"

Opinions my own. Every little detail matters and it’s all connected.
Anthropic is trying to write its own federal AI regulation law. The major AI firms have all issued feeble proposals for how their AI will serve the public, in anticipation of their pending IPOs.
It's all a reminder that we cannot, any under circumstances, let AI firms govern the future.
We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.
1. Make a plan to vote
2. Help your friends and family vote, transportation barriers are real - drive or take the bus or bike with people to the ballot box !
3. Change happens beyond electoral work! Mutual aid, direct aid, deep canvassing, community organizing all need YOU and more funding.
The lessons from Brazil and Serbia?
Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right.
Don't appease.
Don't triangulate.
Don't grovel.
Don't say they have "legitimate concerns".
Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.
I'm Nilu Jenks, and I'm running because blue cities need to show they can govern. North Seattle has been left behind, and the people of D5 deserve as much attention, programming, and resources as the rest of the city. I’ll work hard everyday to change that, and I would be honored to earn your vote.
The Neighbors for Nilu campaign today filed a complaint with the Washington Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) and the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission (SEEC) against North Seattle Neighbors, a dark-money super PAC that mailed 32,563 District 5 households an attack piece on Nilu this week.
WA hospitals anticipate losing billions in revenue from Medicaid cuts
New work requirements take effect Jan. 1. Healthcare leaders say this will affect all patients, not just those on Medicaid.
Thanks to everyone who has written a letter to the county council, metro and SDOT.
Metro is pretty committed to their bus consolidation mindset despite the needs of people with disabilities and the Title II ADA requirements. Efficiency is often not equity.

It’s important not to understate how few homeless RV residents will likely be able to obtain a permit under this regime. Also, the council made it clear that it doesn't see RV/trailer living — including by folks who aren't homeless — as a legitimate form of housing in Seattle.
NEW: The Seattle City Council just passed legislation, that while presented as a permitting program, will effectively ban homeless people living in RVs and trailers on city streets. The city doesn't even have a safe lot open yet. Read in @thestranger.com:

Lefty Cheat Sheet aggregates campaign finance info for each race! Take a look at how Super PACs are trying to influence state legislative races in Seattle 👀

Can you do something about the lack of bathrooms? Public bathrooms generally but in Link stations specifically. I often plan my coffee consumption around my commute from Fremont to Bellevue, which is appalling because this is Seattle and I should be able to drink coffee at any time.

I've been a long time reader and supporter of publicola as a whole.
But this spiral against one particularly niche volunteer website is not a good look.
😞
It **is just an aggregator**. Is it neutral? NO. It literally doesn’t claim to be. It’s right in the name of the site!
I’m curious why you’re focused on this? What’s the subtext?
This afternoon the Seattle City Council will be voting on the RV permitting program that is designed to ultimately ban RVs from Seattle streets.
King County CM Reagan Dunn is worried this will push people living in RVs into unincorporated King County and is introducing his own legislation in KC.
Folks need to remember the main instigating event – which was that a political consultant didn't like some of the sources on LCS and purposefully bought a matching domain to confuse the issue.
Now other folks are doing work on that person's issues for them in the name of "transparency."
Consultants bully and blacklist people all the time. Will the creators of lefty cheat sheet find it hard to get a consultant in the future if they want to run for office? There’s a lot of reasons to stay anonymous. Poltiics is a full contact sport.
When Erica and her consultant friends have satisfied their curiousity and know “who is behind lefty cheat sheet!?!” What will they do with that info? Go after each of us individually? Write about us with our names in the news? What are they trying to “see”? The fervor to know feels like bullying
Please check out our events page and join us to see salmon spawning at Carkeek Park on Nov 21!!!!
Thank you for the shoutout, @ericacbarnett.bsky.social!
Many of the groups are just websites run by Share the Cities, the group run by a person who ignored my questions about this yesterday and blocked me. The one site that includes actual, listed human beings is this one, though I'd hesitate to say all the people listed worked on the cheat sheet.
Share the Cities built Lefty Cheat Sheet to better inform Seattle voters of the range of endorsing organizations that exist beyond our two major newspapers. It was built with us and our own communities in mind, and then shared with everyone to use and to customize.

We are ruled by dark patterns. Simply elegantly surfacing reality to people in a navigable way; showing what is and what is possible, is an incredible boon to creating a better world
