Have you seen the Elon Musk flying car video? My favorite part it when it lands, is completely engulfed by steam, and a very similar-looking car emerges. I’m a theater kid and I admire these kind of practical special effects. In this age of AI, it demonstrates a commitment to the craft

If Putin stops fighting, the war ends. If Zelensky stops fighting then his country will be occupied, leaders murdered, language banned, businesses stolen, children kidnapped. That's what happens in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

Not going to lie, I love seeing Ukraine destroy Putin’s oil refineries and I truly love seeing President Zelenskyy triggering TF out of MAGA lunatics all because he’s a wartime hero who refuses to allow a despot to destroy his country. Slava Ukraini! 💙👊

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

We have to crush these sociopaths. The problem is that many Democrats take money from them, which means they will get bailed out at our expense in the next 2-4 years.

LMFAO -- Trump is holding an event at the White House right now but there's no audio because the press pool isn't there. The Newsmax host notes that this is an example of Trump's attacks on the press "backfiring just a little bit"

one thing that is worth remember apropos this useful piece is that novel technologies do not necessarily require novel political solutions. americans have had to deal with fast-moving, disruptive technological change in the past, and they did so through collective, democratic action.

One of the coolest things about people who don't have a lot of power taking a principled stand is it lays bare the complete cowardice of the ones who actually *do* have power when they fail to do even a fraction as much.

Unlike Macklemore, these support acts don’t have big followings and they are giving up their chance to perform to stadiums to push back against censorship, not of themselves but of a fellow artist. Respect.

Q: On the checks, we have $40t in debt. If your economic policies are working, why do you need an incentive for people to turn out to vote? T: I'm doing it as a reward for having to put up w/Biden Q: You also offered tariff refunds-- TRUMP: Not you Q: And that didn't happen T: You're the worst

Honestly, I'd say the most disastrous decisions of Obama and Biden were not really holding anyone accountable for crimes committed under the previous administration. Obama wanted to "turn the page" on Iraq and the financial meltdown while Biden never put any urgency behind the January 6th cases

What was the most disastrous decision from the most recent presidents that had effects we feel today? Clinton: Lying under oath and getting away with it (paved way for Trump) Bush: Iraq Obama: Syria and Libya Trump I: Covid and pulling out of JCPOA Biden: Running again Trump II: Iran

just talk about musk the way republicans would if he was a democrat a bigoted antisemitic weird foreign billionaire with a weird breeding fetish and a nazi pedo chatbot is funding the republican party. if republicans don't denounce, we know they are pro-nazi pedo bot and the voters should know.

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

I wrote this piece a few hours ago about how Musk bears responsibility for today's GOP and how they, in turn, must be held responsible for his extremism, but the dollar figures are already out of date. A hateful bigot is funding the Republican midterm campaign. Seems sorta like a big deal?

Exactly. If you concede to the right wing framing on something so trivial, why should I believe you will hold firm when it's hard?

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

if youre a democrat folding on hasan piker bull shit, why should i think you are going to push through on the hard stuff? do you have any idea the propaganda campaign you will be facing when you try to investigate trump corruption? the ice killers and rapists? court expansion?

What is important right now for the Democrats to do is to discredit the political project of a Republican Party captured by far right extremists, and to kill dead any attempt at Redemptionist politics.

WELKER: Do you think democratic socialists have a place in the Democratic Party? VAN HOLLEN: Yes they do as part of the debate. I think that those in the Dem Party who are afraid of a healthy debate are missing the point, because Democratic voters do not want a return to the pre-Trump status quo

This is what President Biden should have said every day about every Republican leader for the duration of his presidency. McConnell would not have walked back his condemnation. McCarthy would never had met with him. There would not have been another Trump term.

There are going to be Democrats who say we shouldn’t rip it all out — it’s already built, we have other priorities — but removing the visible signs of Trumpism is absolutely necessary.

The vandalism and desecration of the White House isn't just vanity and it's not trivial. It's caesarism, as in literally what Julius Caesar did to the symbolic architecture of civic republicanism. Our national iconography matters and allowing the disfiguring of it to persist is a substantive harm.

As I've taken to saying, any system that makes voters become dime-store game theorists is bad. Ranked choice voting eliminates that. Top-two exacerbates it.

Bob Calhoun@bobcalhoun.bsky.social

Bob from California here. Don't do it Massachusetts! Because of this, I have to start being strategic in my primary vote and it sucks majorly. Either go for ranked choice or don't. The half measure "jungle primary" is worse than the old school party primaries. Please, trust me on this.
