This week's Look Outside character is CLYDE! The well-armed, protective pill bug from the basement! Draw this little guy! I will collect art I can find and make a post about em next week, before I announce the next one. Use the tags #WeeklyLookOutside and #WLO_Clyde !

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that

Goddammit it's a miserable process going through the 8000-ish demos in Next Fest (starts later today) and seeing the overwhelming use of AI in so many games. I recommend this browser plugin for making it easier to spot - github.com/seeeeew/aiwa... - but Valve REALLY needs to make it a required tag.

The begging will continue until... something improves. Currently interviewing for a second job and trying to keep up some streaming n shit for folks who like that. I'd gladly take likes/comments/shares on my creative output, but spare change would be great too

The In Memorium at the Oscars this year lasted longer. And it was missing multiple names!

this is easy: flying cars have never been cool and a fixation on them is an indication of being a mark akin to a Disney Adult but for science fiction horseshit

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

Watching The Blacklist. The show's in a weird place between police procedural and prestige formats, like it has ambitions to be the latter, but has the budget of the former, so it's stuck in the middle without being satisfying. Goddamn, if James Spader isn't the best thing in it though

Finished Hellraiser: Revival. The bits that were good were amazing. The bits that were bad fucking suuuuuucked. Unsurprisingly, the story was the best part, felt like a genuine continuation of the story with some neat twists. Overall, the best 7.5 you'll play all year

Remembering that time when some big name accounts were arguing that X is all good now and the algorithm has been de-Elon'd. Wait, that was yesterday. The same time this was happening.

So Danny Trejo was manipulated and tricked into being in Ben Shapiro's newest film. Holy shit.

The devs who say they need to use genai to code a little faster should know they are helping to normalise tools that physically harm others. There is so many costs many will just not think about but it’s there and why I’m not going to suport your games if your using it.

My god. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do.

Sadly I think even Cliffy B saying Unreal Tournament and Gears has always been diverse will not break Gamergaters out of their AI-accelerated conspiratorial psychosis. Still unpacking ways we can deprogram people for a chapter book, feel free to send me any research/recs!

the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

Bugs 🔜 MC Atlanta@bugsmaytrix.bsky.social

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Reading Witchblade probably for the first time since the 90s and I'm only now noticing how, every couple of issues, there's randomly a big splash page of women in latex or just straight up fetish gear. Not sure how I missed it, it's not subtle, but it is interesting

Didn't think Cronenberg could outdo the weird sex scenes in Crash, but here we are watching Crimes of the Future and bugger me with a caterpillar, if he didn't manage to beat it. Well done

Don't know if I liked it, exactly. There's some really dodgy effects shots that took me out of it here and there, but it's showing me something drastically different, and that counts as a win. Felt closest to Naked Lunch in places, usually when the cop was around.

Rewatching Yellowjackets and I suggest we retitle the pilot to "Isn't It Ironic (Don't You Think)" because holy shit so much of it is darkly hilarious in hindsight

Rewatching Videodrome, and the line about how "soon, all of us will have special names" always makes me laugh. The where James Woods is asked if he wants a VHS tape or Betamax is a close second, but for other, less prophetic reasons

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Edd Coates | Game UI Database@eddcoates.bsky.social

Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working. I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

$200/$300 I don't think I deserve it, but it's certainly a load off my mind. Endless thanks, contributor

fiendly was here@fiendly.bsky.social

Non-urgent beg post: I'm expecting to come up about $300 short on my credit card payment for the month. I don't expect to make that full amount in time, but everything I can make by 10/7 will go towards it to minimize interest fees. Even a little bit would help a lot ko-fi.com/fiendly
