Starting off 2026 with a commissions announcement! I’ve drawn a few commissioned pieces in the past, but haven’t widely advertised it before. If you would like to fund custom-made drawings from a young artist, contact me and we can discuss all the details. #commissions #paleoart #wildlifeart

To-scale illustrations of the four species of Wirras, quadrupedal open-habitat Macropods from the fictional world of #Tyrannoc (commissioned by a friend). All are open-habitat adapted animals on the Australia-equivalent continent of Warraka. #specevo #fantasy #creaturedesign #wildlifeart #kangaroo

THE NEXT PINELANDS PROTECTORS: Scenes from today’s Pinelands-themed, World Water Monitoring Challenge, where approximately 200 students slipped on waders, used nets to catch and release fish and learned about the Pinelands at Batsto Lake. 🐟 📷: Paul Leakan, NJPC #nature #water #education

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

El Salvador during the Pleistocene. A colossal, searing shockwave from the eruption of the Ilopango caldera surges outward, incinerating and devastating everything in its path, giant ground sloths, gomphotheres, and columbian mammoths all met their doom on this day. #paleoart

#SundayFishSketch 🐠🐟And the series is now complete! Here is a selection of 21 pycnodont fish, showing their diversity through time Species in the Alt text #paleoart

Stumbled across one of the most delightful little friends in a nearby pine savanna, a Little Gem Roach (Aglaopteryx gemma). Not often found because they rarely stray from pines and because they’re fast enough to be considered facultative teleporters. #bugsky #roaches #insect #wildlife #alabama

Pelagosaurus typus The basalmost known metriorhynchoid, small piscivorous pursuer, sea noodle, very numerous in specimens (a 2006 thesis listed 88 specimens, with even more being figured since then), and yes the arms were that tiny. One specimen shows a gnarly healed broken jaw

Hot off the presses! I reviewed the history of early ray-finned fishes, with a focus on their morphology, fossil record, and taxonomy. My principal goal is a guide for other workers to make the rich record of early actinopterygian evolution more broadly available. dx.doi.org/10.1002/jmor...

dx.doi.orgThe Evolutionary History of Early Ray‐Finned Fishes (Pan‐Actinopterygii)Ray-finned fishes, the most diverse living vertebrate clade, include over 600 extinct early actinopterygian species whose evolution is an enigma.

In the shallow sea over late #Cretaceous Europe, A pair of Mosasaurus lemonnieri begin to rip apart a subadult Phosphorosaurus ortliebi they’ve just caught. Inspired by a brand new study on a bonebed of this noodly Mosasaurus, which also revealed the new #mosasaur genus Thoraxion! #sciart #paleoart

Oops, it’s September already! #SciArtSeptember 1: Malachite. A Columbian mammoth wading through aquatic plants. Originally a sketching practise, referenced mainly from the beautiful Eofauna figurine. #SciArt

I use inordinate ammount of time studying anatomy. I justify this by telling myself that its all in the name of being better at my craft but in all honesty I just really really enjoy it. pierolapithecus.

Quick sketch of Westlothiana lizziae, grabbing some lunch in early #Carboniferous Scotland. Formerly known as an early reptile-like amniote or maybe an amphibian, “Lizzie” was just reinterpreted as more early-diverging tetrapodomorph, possessing fishy gills and spiracles. #sciart #paleoart #fishart

I did the art for this!!! It’s nice to finally be able to talk about this

Out today: We show that Westlothiana lizziae or "Lizzie," described 35 years ago as the world's oldest reptile - is not a stem amniote at all, but a stem tetrapod. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

A hypothetical earliest Tylosaurine, just after the split with Plioplatecarpines. No fossils of such basal Tylosaurs are known, but based on other early #Mosasaurs it’d be leggy and noodly. Inspired by @tyrantlzrdqueen.bsky.social’s research/discussion on the Skeleton Crew. #sciart #paleoart #lizard

Hadrosaurus foulkii, the first dinosaur discovered in North America and one whose holotype is housed at the currently-threatened Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. If the academy is shut down, this and thousands of other irreplaceable specimens will likely be lost. #SavetheAcademy #sciart

At the beginning of the month Drexel University made public that they want to close the Academy of Natural Sciences at the end of the month. The academy is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas and this would end more than 200 years of research and outreach.

New idea: in the late Cretaceous this clade of Tritylodonts would have developed a muscular lip-pad as a digging/soil-foraging tool, and then right after the k/pg it gets elongated and co-opted for browsing until you could reasonably call it a trunk. #specevo #cynodont #cretaceous

Dynamognathus@dynamoterror.bsky.social

Rough-sketched idea of how these non-mammalian cynodonts may acquire a trunk-lip, through increasingly specialized browsing with a hardened, then lengthened upper lip that gets increasingly grippy and muscular. A bit of #specevo for my personal Kerguelen project. #worldbuilding #illustration

Hadrosaurus, Platecarpus, and Chasmosaurus. All are from Academy of Natural Sciences and they need your help. The Museum is approaching its closure and the last thing we want is a historic museum to be lost forever. #SaveANSP

A commissioned lineup of the proboscideans of Sukaya (the Africa-equivalent continent of a friend’s #worldbuilding project). Elephants are definitely becoming some of my favorite animals to draw! #specevo #Tyrannoc #elephants

Some paleoart I made of two types of mammoths! The Midwest wasn't home to just one type of mammoth during the Pleistocene epoch. Woolly mammoths lived further north during this span of time while most of the Great Plains and central lowlands were home to herds of Columbian mammoths!

As much as the genus as a whole is mentioned/depicted tangentially, most of the various species of Stegodon still feel very underrated to me. Like Stegodon ganesa. The cranium is four feet long, and it hails from the Plio-Pleistocene Siwalik deposits of northern India. #paleoart #sciart #pleistocene

Osborn took one look at the bent pieced-together left tusk and decided that it must surely have turned within its socket postmortem, and actually looked like those of Asian Elephants. No evidence of this has thus far been found, but I like the vibes.

Ichneumonid wasps A few wasps I've seen in recent years. These parasitoid insects are incredibly diverse, yet poorly known with possibly as little as a quarter of living species even named. They're famous for making Charles Darwin doubt the existence of God simply by existing in nature.
