so real. nothing teaches you how to chill like “if i don’t chill out i’m going to run out of air and die”

tbabb@tbabb.bsky.social

scuba is the chillest activity and unironically this is a big reason why

I'm really excited about this and hope it enables non-public photo sharing. I've been exploring Pixelfed as replacement to Instagram, but I'd like to stay within ATmosphere.

so excited to get this in folks' hands and to see what people build with it! it’s been a lot of work getting here & i'm proud of where it's at check it out, bang on it, break it, see where it doesn't work. let's make sure this is something we're all excited about & can take pride in building on

How to avoid looking like corpo, rule #2137: Do NOT do a daily 𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 about all the fun reactions people clicked under your messages. (looking with reproach toward @microsoft.com)

👀 paperclip maximizer

Lukasz Olejnik@lukaszolejnik.bsky.social

A mini cyber paperclip-maximizer event where a narrow goal induced AI to make absurdly disproportionate decisions (find vulnerabilities, escalate privileges, steal credentials, move laterally, and chain attacks across real systems) to achieve a "score". openai.com/index/huggin...

Every tradition was avant-garde when it was conceived, and addressed its contemporary needs. Today's needs require today's solutions, traditional or not.

In Turkey, an elderly man who earns his living by shining shoes is visited every morning at the same time by a cat that asks to have its fur brushed. The man never turns down this little friend.😍👍💙

I'm quite fond of Fallout: New Vegas, having 200 hours on the counter, and I must say, season 2 of the series is a treat – highly recommended!

Hot take – rather than China or Russia, I'd prefer Britain and France as the neocolonial powers in the 3rd world (don't take this post too seriously)

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

Russians have some clearly identifiable obsessions. Like about UK (of all weapon-sending UA allies, for some reason), and Bellingcat (of all media reporting on the opposite side, for some reason)

thinking about the time a cool Instagram fashion account asked me to name my favorite products and i didn't know i was supposed to name fashion products, so i said pigeon food because i like feeding pigeons and their followers were like "why the fuck do i need pigeon food for my outfit?"

I got a game idea: Read That Redemption. You just read the books you were supposed to read ages ago, so that you can finally redeem yourself by saying "I read that"

Darth Putin@darthputinkgb.bsky.social

Last night we "retaliated" against Ukraine by doing exactly the same things we've done for more than 3 years.

Orbán literary drained resources meant for Hungarian families, farmers, and industry and funneled them to family-owned businesses. Evil Jabba strikes again.

WarTranslated (Dmitri)@wartranslated.bsky.social

Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated he would not allow Ukraine to join the EU, claiming it would drain resources meant for European families, farmers, and industry. He criticized bureaucrats, suggesting they disregard where Europeans' money goes.

I've had this view for a long time; it's great to see someone capture it in such a clear manner.

But my experience is that pirates often would 𝘯𝘰𝘵 have paid for the software. They would have gone without, or used something else. (7/16)

Huge miss. Art and craft are 2 different things, and so are the concepts intellectual and physical property; Ikea chairs are still designed by people with artistic skill, and that results in design which is IP. This is what AI slop is about, not the manufacturing part.

dame@dame.is

if AI generations are slop, then so are mass produced goods which are made of cheap material — your $50 ikea chair theoretically “stole” work from a human craftsperson who in days gone by would have made the chair locally by hand with quality material that cost 10x as much

In terms of artwork, this job was "stolen" by printers long time ago. We're talking mass-produced "IP", which is uncomparable to anything before. Personally, I like seeing the name of the designer on the tag of my Ikea item.

Yeah, the key question here is how the hell did they fit the bolt from underneath (as its head is down there), together with the washer. They must have drilled an even more massive hole for logistics, or simply used volcanoes as entrypoints.
