This week I attended a SCEC sponsored workshop and field trip to look at faults in the Truckee area co-led by @faultcreeper.bsky.social Here are a couple of images of the Polaris fault including an impressive offset terrace riser along the Truckee River and a linear swale/closed depression.

It’s so maddening to know how they just blatantly break the law all the time, but to know that they are preparing to defend themselves against it is just …

“Several conservative organizations …— including the Heritage Foundation and American Moment — have pressed White House counsel to either prepare pardons or put in place funding for the legal fees necessary to defend junior staffers from criminal and congressional probes or potential lawsuits.”

...Revisiting some imagery from the 2017 Tubbs Fire for work... I sure do miss the Round Barn and still struggle to understand how that historic structure got zero community effort to rebuild - it was SUCH a landmark.

Beach ridge complex and dunes at Pointe aux Chenes, Michigan. I've got it in my slides for a case study on post-glacial rebound and other causes of lake level change on the Great Lakes, and I had to post it here again.

📌So eight sailors we know of attempted suicide in the USS Lincoln Strike Group. This is beyond disgusting. It is a tragedy, and heads need to roll starting with Pete Hegseth, who is an unqualified bum. I can't even imagine how bad the morale must be on these ships. This is NOT the Navy I served in.

Yes, the person tasked with convincing the public that it’s reasonable to ignore reams of evidence and end telehealth prescriptions of abortion pills after the midterms is named… Overton

Reproaction@reproaction.bsky.social

🚨Trump has nominated another anti-abortion operative to lead a federal agency. Heidi Overton publicly celebrated the overturning of Roe and has since called for restrictions on abortions pills. Tell the FDA and White House to keep their hands OFF abortion pills now: reproaction.org/action/trump....

If you want 1.5C, 1.8C, 2C, overshoot, no-overshoot, etc, then they all require the same thing: rapid short-term emission reductions reaching net zero CO2 emissions as soon as possible. This has been clear from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, which depicts "overshoot" on its cover! 1/

Wow, these sequestration rates (even in medium scenario) are not just unrealistic, they are fantastical. Our work on geological limits to carbon sequestration shows that even achieving 1 Gt/y will be challenging without significant tech breakthrough. Relying on CCS today is not a realistic plan!

Zeke Hausfather@zekehausfather.com

The article also includes a first look at the carbon dioxide removal deployed in these scenarios (based on the IAM used in the marker scenario). Some scenarios deploy what I would consider unrealistic levels – particularly those we have slower near-term emissions reductions like "Medium-Low".

Lala, now a Category 1 hurricane, looks pretty healthy on radar imagery as it makes a close approach toward Hawaii's Big Island, where it may make landfall (if so, would be first HI landfall since 1992). Either way, widespread and potentially serious flash flooding is expected.

Some days I’m surprised at how introspective people are here, ignoring posts about a genuinely very bad earthquake. Someone said recently that unless there’s a tsunami, westerners pay almost no attention at all, and sadly that seems to be true. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

Buttigieg: The fact that the Trump admin deleted references to 4 American service members killed in action b/c that simple and tragic reality complicates their narrative that we're not at war, when everybody knows that we are, shows how far from reality they are. I think voters are fed up with it.
