You see the hold the Rustic Illusion has on everyone. So many of these lines to the country house / rural vacation area. NYC folks idolize the Hudson Valley and Hudson Valley folks dream of the Adirondacks. You bring yourself with you everywhere, friends.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

gonna bury this one in the replies a little bit but while i think dx uptick for adhd is very much driven by awareness i think it's also driven by nicotine cessation-- we had a widespread-to-the-point-of-inescapability drug that ~worked pretty well for ADHD (shame about the other side effects)

Something which I think gets seriously underplayed in all the ‘are we ready for war?’ stuff: a modern economy can adapt to the pressures and needs of war very quickly. And what seemed impossible suddenly becomes necessary and is done.

Some people think having better outcomes for historically disadvantaged students and no change in outcomes for people pushed out of flagship schools must be stopped at all costs www.nber.org/digest/jun20...

What is at stake in this case if and when SCOTUS takes it back up on the merits is the constitutionality of policies like UT's Top 10% Plan, which then-Gov. George W. Bush adopted back in the 90s as a response to the 5th Circuit's declaring affirmative action unconstitutional in higher ed...

Bottom line: we can’t rely on billionaire-owned news outlets to do fair & accurate reporting of Trump’s abuse of power. And we need to demand more action from DC Council and our in coming Mayor. They need to be vocally fighting for transparency & accountability of Guard and Feds actions in DC 13/

To give a sense of scale, Musk is spending more on the midterms than he was on the 2024 election, and he was the biggest donor in that election. In 2025 he promised to pull back from politics and do much less political spending. Another lie.

When I first heard about AI being used for menus and advertisements, my concern was largely that it would be used to idealize the food and make it look better than it actually was. At no point did I imagine that restaurants would willingly put out horrific looking images of their food on purpose
