I'm starting to think that CTO is an outdated concept in many organisations who are clinging to it as a role because its expected. Maybe I'm wrong and it's more the type of CTO most organisations have isn't right.

Maybe it's time that CTOs came from a different background. Maybe, just maybe, its time for CTOs to be Experience Strategists. People who can pull all the threads together to enable the organisation to deliver something truly unique, driven by user needs.

They often don't understand that what the organisation delivers is an experience that needs properly designing. They often don't understand that user research is the most effective driver of business and product strategy.

I've witnessed multiple times how a new CTO fails the organisation by decreasing the design maturity as they focus on techinical, and cargo cult delivery.

Been trying to play with a tattoo design in Gemini. What a downright TERRIBLE experience. I had some words, and a turtle. I wanted to place the turtle over the words, but it would only mash them together. I asked it why it was crap. Strap in...

EV charging prices on the public network in England is absolutely outrageous. This is not how to stop people using fossil fuels. It needs capping.

Why are we supposed to be impressed that a robot beat Bolt's running record? There are millions of machines that can go faster than any human alive. There's so many of these machines, the traffic they cause frequently keeps them from moving at all. Where's the "reverse climate change" machine?

#NathanCofnas does represent history of racist eugenics well in that lying, useless ‘research’ is how #eugenics has always worked Burt was asked for his ‘research’ data by Harvard but said his assistants had it all and they had emigrated without leaving forwarding addresses It’s all racist lies

For people who want to see a screen reader in action, it can be helpful to start with this demo from Hadi Rangin of the University of Washington's IT Accessibility Team. Among the things Rangin discusses are ARIA landmarks, headings, and text content. youtu.be/7Rs3YpsnfoI

“misalignment” - is another myth. Assumes alignment is possible. This is a category error. A computer system has no understanding of human intentions and morals. No equivalent basis for building an understanding

Networking is a pyramid scheme - banging thread 👇 I think the same also applies to a lot of 'leadership performance' at conferences too.

“Your network is your net worth” is one of those phrases that sounds like wisdom to people who spent £600 to attend a conference in a hotel ballroom with a keynote by Steven Bartlett. Until you, you know, actually think about it.

I clearly don't follow enough local Bristol peeps yet as I've not seen one post stating "Drizzle in Brizzle" despite having weather reports from colleagues.

if you didn’t write it… you didn’t write it no, using an llm to “draft” for you is not writing it writers write: that’s one of the four noble truths for writers if you don’t write, you’re not a writer it’s really that simple no wriggling, hairsplitting, whining argument will change that
