Westminster station -the portal to British government, passed through by 1000s of policymakers every day - almost always offers a good illustration of why TfL & @london.gov.uk need to curb fossil fuel ads on our tubes, trains & buses. BP isn’t advertising here to sell consumers more petrol directly

I was heckled by local Tories at Full Council last when I said that this summer was the coldest summer of the rest of our lives 👀

Bike lanes as an antidote to their ghoulish world view. Keep it coming.

Still no 20mph limits in and around Liverpool city centre? An outrage, given the evidence. Hunter Street is an abomination.

Thinking about Harry Webbe’s family and friends as they process this latest post-crash news. Geofencing and speed-limiting hired e-bikes is widely accepted, tech is developing fast, so should we apply the same danger reduction logic to driving cars? www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/s...

Big, burly men that drive to the gym: "You are not going to carry a ladder on a bike..." Me, a quite dainty/small male human:

Brandon - "Fietser"@americanfietser.bsky.social

I’ve hauled a ladder on my own cargo bike, and contractors in the Netherlands do it every single day. The limits of what's possible aren't dictated by the physical capability of the bike, they're dictated entirely by the quality of your infrastructure.

I remain convinced that the biggest barrier to an adult human adopting cycling for transport is a lack of imagination. It took me quite a while - even after I restarted commuting by bike - to realise that cycles could also do awesome things like carry children, shopping, ladders(!), etc. Car brain.

One of those charts that should probably be on the front page of every newspaper/website in the world, local and national

Breaking News! Code UFB!!! For the first time in recorded history, the Niño 3.4 sea-surface temperature (SST) is above 30.0°C, reaching a preliminary SST of 30.06°C on October 5th. The Niño 3.4 SST anomaly is now 3.41°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. Everything is not fine.

It’s remarkable how many people can move on a street when those people don’t feel the need to always take a massive car with them. Mobility in cities is about space.

Gave a tour of our heat pump setup to a knowledgable local yesterday, who is making the swap soon. Most disappointing thing I hear from those trying to learn is the lengths gas engineers go to to talk them out of it! Latest story was that the BUS grant had closed for new applications. Clown-like

I'm a big fan of these chill videos showing folks getting around by bike in civilised places like 🇳🇱. Yes! You can run errands with a bicycle. We are 50 years behind in the UK but my grandchildren might like to know we made an effort for them.

Don't suppose now is a good time to talk about bicycles is it? Never seems a good time to raise it... 👀 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Very nice to hear a sane voice from Piddington. Serious respect to this woman, who is apparently already being othered by more bigoted villagers.

In our first few months of owning an EV I was happy to see an average efficiency of just over 4 miles/kWh. Pretty good! Compare that to our e-bike, which I've just seen in our service report: "An efficiency of 7.52 Wh/km converts to approximately ***82.6 miles per kWh***" 😮🤯

I make the e-bike about TWENTY TIMES more efficient than our Polestar 2. You guys, we should probably prioritise pedal assist e-bikes (to take the place of car trips) at every opportunity

Petrol/diesel prices spiking again ... but it's windy today so EV drivers are getting discounts to soak up the masses of electricity ⚡ Praying for the dictators who are high on their (lack of) supply ⛽

Elsewhere, the power that our roof can't generate is priced negatively today as well. Washing machine and dishwasher running, hot water sorting itself thanks to Have side, etc. The world is changing 🏞️

It did not take a genius to work out that massive companies like VW did not need to reinvent the wheel as they electrified. The Polo and Golf were massively popular for a reason. Ford might eventually realise this as well (Ka, Fiesta, Focus 🤷‍♂️)

electrive.comVW ID. Polo sold out for months ahead - electrive.comIn Europe, a waiting list is apparently forming for the VW ID. Polo even before the start of deliveries — at least for individual configurations. The waiting

It's a pickle for politicians, that's for sure! Lots of jobs that rely on manufacturing luxury vehicles that very few people actually need. Destroyers of the planet. Etc. JLR should pivot to 100% electric agricultural and/or military vehicle production. Possibly buses. Ya know, useful stuff.

Pleased to see Tories are still incapable of learning the lesson that “ending the war on motorists” is not an election winning stance in London, which has the highest walking & cycling rates, lowest car ownership & best public transport of anywhere in Britain. It’s like they don’t know any of this

Very cool - switching from gas to electric induction cuts kitchen temperatures by 10 degrees, cuts hob cleaning times from 24mins to 21 seconds, cuts energy use by 2/3rds (a 9k saving in one pub) and yes - wok hei is still possible www.theguardian.com/environment/...

theguardian.comThe chefs turning down the heat by switching from gas to electricAs well as being quieter, cheaper to run and easier to clean, induction cookers can cut kitchen temperatures by up to 10C

No mention of improved infrastructure that the council should be delivering. Also: "To help prevent drink driving, users are required to complete an in-app cognitive reaction test before they can begin their journey at night." Great! Now do cars

Wow. This is excellent news on a number of fronts, not just carbon (energy access, air quality). China's supply of this fast growing market, is another major missed opportunity for countries like the US, who seem unable to fathom the scale of the export potential here.
