A return to firing squad everywhere might finally end the death penalty. Why? Because people have to be directly involved in executions (not pressing a button) it’s terrifically difficult to get them to do it. Medieval executions had the same problem!

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Pete Hegseth says Americans will be able to watch a Trump-approved firing-squad execution. If he follows through, the U.S. could join a disturbing club of countries known for public executions—including Iran, Afghanistan, and North Korea.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.

Octavia E. Butler’s novel “Parable of the Talents” depicts a dystopian United States run by Christian Nationalists. Their slogan is “Make America Great Again.” Published in 1998, many years before Trump’s political career, but this poem in the book prophesied Trump. (Poem from @zymplex.bsky.social)

I have just finished reading THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS (2026) by @wiswell.bsky.social, and I want everyone to read it. I love a good dragon shifter romance. This is not that. It's loads funnier, more thought-provoking, cooler world building, ... 1/2

...more understanding of physical and psychological trauma that does not stop beings, but does require creativity to carve out a different path... did I mention it's funny? And I am sad I never got to meet Lefty. Thank you, John! 2/2

ICE will keep murdering random people until Democrats stop criticizing them is... well... quite a take.

Mitch McConnell hasn’t been seen or heard from in 25 days in the hospital. Yet he still has a job, still getting paid, and getting unlimited world class healthcare. The man who voted against a living wage, against universal healthcare, and against guaranteed paid leave, is now getting all three.

Erika reposted

I think @govandybeshear.bsky.social should just appoint a Dem to fill McConnell’s seat. It would force proof of life, and the state law that stripped him of that power should be challenged in court. I’m sure Thune would refuse to seat the appointee, but I think it’s a fight worth having. BE BOLD!

Apparently they're being asked to make videos in which they apologize and recognize their wrongs. This article notes "hostage videos"...and if I were a student, I would be quite tempted to make MY video with two other people on either side bearing swords, while I'm knelt down, hooded...

I don’t know man, who is “the Democratic Party” if it’s not the voters?Democratic voters choose candidates, not party leaders. And party leaders need to listen to what voters are telling us - and right now they are demanding our party be bolder.

Jaime Harrison@jaimeharrison.bsky.social

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.
