if you haven't seen any photos of what the US used to look like before the clean air/water acts, you should take 30 seconds for a quick image search

Ken Vogel@kenvogel.bsky.social

NEW: Trump's flurry of pardons to Clean Air Act violators were the latest move by his administration to undermine laws intended to fight climate change & curb air pollutants that harm human health, @karenzraick.bsky.social & I report.

Know that libraries count things. How many people have cards, how many times a book or DVD or CD is checked out, etc. And then we take those numbers to our internal staff and say "look, people want this" to justify purchases, and then to local govts to say "look, we need to stay open".

Just a reminder. I'm always surprised how many people aren't aware of this. #Libraries

Mona Khalil spent over 20 years protecting sea turtles on Mansouri Beach. After she was injured in an Israeli attack, activists continued her initiative at Rmeileh Beach, where they protected the first loggerhead nest of 73 eggs on Thursday. youtu.be/fbBKzK4JNRc

Counterpoint: They will never be cost-effective and the entire premise is flawed. First, the idea of "space is cold so cooling costs will be cheaper" doesn't work because that's not how thermodynamics works. Second, the latency would kill any high-speed use case.

Building data centers in space could be cost-effective by the early 2030s. www.semafor.com/article/06/1...

@eneveswrites.bsky.social phenomenal job on #WHA this week. I could so vividly feel Tartah’s emotions through your performance. From his frustration over not being able to help to his elation over casting a spell, it was all wonderful. Great work.

Today Microsoft moved all its GitHub copilot subscribers to token-based billing. If you want to see what happens when people have to pay the actual costs of AI, the day is finally here. It's obvious that every customer sees the deep, meaningful value and isn't angry at all.

Gorgeous illustrations; beautiful introduction to a classic. Great addition to any #library collection. Hand it to those who want to reread HP. Fascinating to read this in tandem with Le Guin’s translation of the Tao Te Ching. So many ideas cross populate. #Booksky #GraphicNovel #WizardOfEarthsea

@eneveswrites.bsky.social brilliant job on #WHA this week. The frustration in Tartah’s voice as he told Coco why he could never become a witch was so intense and genuine. I could tell he was more angry at himself than he was at Coco. Great work.

Every three weeks there’s a video of the CEO of Deepmind saying something insane about how we’re 5 years from AGI, and if you respond saying he sounds like an idiot someone says “umm that’s SIR Demis Hassabis? He won a Nobel peace prize?” Like you realize somebody can get that and still sound dumb

Sometimes I really can’t believe that the state of Texas is in danger of running out of water bc our elected officials are selling it to oil and gas and AI companies; meanwhile, said officials are doing stupid bullshit like investigating 10-commandments-display compliance in public schools.

This flight made yet another stop, to the Republic of Georgia, that I hope was just for fuel but was probably also a deportation. Meaning people would’ve been shackled for 50+ hours. Longest one I’ve recorded this year. (The longest I’ve ever recorded is 82 hours, in December.)

Gillian Brockell@gillianbrockell.com

God almighty, Uzbekistan wasn’t the last stop. This ICE flight continued on to Pakistan via this circuitous route. Migrant passengers onboard will have been shackled for at least 43 hours.
