I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

As a grad student working toward becoming an ELA teacher, my vision of the subject is: We go hunting for things that are hard to put into words, and then we put them into words

I have found anecdotally that this is literally true, many people simply do not know that young people do not get the same break on college that they did

This. And if most Americans weren't aware of this in 2019, I'd guess they're even less so now. Public university students were paying for a third of the cost of their education in 2009, and it was up to half by 2019. 2009 wasn't great compared to the 60s-70s, either. www.pbs.org/newshour/edu...

But we need more than wolf containment. We need a reclaimation of the essential humanity of education. Empathy, kindess, curiosity, people at education conferences roll their eyes at this. The terminally online roll their eyes too. And that is exactly why we can win this fight.

So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…

Largely, this is a personality thing. I've matured somewhat as an adult, but I am still almost entirely a creature of intrinsic motivation. I sometimes enjoy external rewards like money or recognition, but they're never fuel for the work. This is both a great blessing and a terrible curse.

Not much of an Apple booster, but the AirPods 5 noise cancelling really does drown out the asshole who gets on the Red at Hollywood & Highland and plays sub-Frat party quality covers of Imagine & Wonderwall near daily.

Xueting's #Popculture Digest looks at #Y3K fashion and aesthetics. That's right, it's a new iteration of Y2K, but rather than the colourful retro-futurism of its millennial predecessor, Y3K emerged online around 2024, and casts a colder, bolder look into the more distant future of 3000. 1/

I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart
