Hard agree. Please, make this narrative stop. While we're at it the 'bc politics is so wacky' narrative, which originates in Central Canada, could also be put to rest...

RIP recession 2025/2026

Brian Platt@brianplatt.bsky.social

GDP data out this morning shows a strong rebound for Canada’s economy in the second quarter. It also revised the first quarter data to show Canada did not have a technical recession after all (though growth was still very tepid) www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Canadian gov. walking away from tariff talks just handed dems in US a good talking point: “can’t even make a deal with Canada.” We’ll see if that enters the discourse at scale…

For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.

At the risk of being old man yelling at cloud: The epidemic of illegally tinted driver and passenger windows on cars in Ontario is outrageous. Pedestrians, cyclists, people using mobility devices like scooters and wheelchairs can’t communicate with drivers. It’s unsafe and shouldn’t be tolerated.

“The immeasurable gains #fossifuels gave us over the past century are now being taken away, hundreds of houses, thousands of evacuations, and billions of dollars at a time, leaving mass trauma, ravaged landscapes, impoverished communities, and a tattered social fabric.”

"Heated Rivalry" was a balm for a particularly bleak winter. "Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody" is a hilarious (and, yes, sexy!) shot to the heart, just in time for summer. Fall in love with Shane and Ilya all over again... hellgatenyc.com/off-broadway...

NEW | California just reached a world-first solar milestone Over HALF (51%) of electricity generation across the whole month of May came from solar power. Battery storage is the big difference maker, enabling California to push the share of solar generation to this level.

Buffalo's biggest edge over other Great Lakes cities is facing west for ocean-style sunsets. T.O. always missed out—until now. Looking west over the water toward the skyline, the new Biidaasige Park finally gives us that magic view. I can see this being the new Riverdale Park. 🌇 (Photo: ave_spadina)

Come join us for a Queer Picnic Sat, Aug 1, 2-6pm on Church St to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Gay Picnic Day—Canada’s first Pride! There will be grass, sandboxes, and even my mini inflatable pool! Bring your picnic blankets, camping chairs, and most importantly, your friends! (1/2)

Repost if you think the Church Street pedestrianization project should be made permanent and year-round. An absolute new gem of a space in the heart of Toronto’s LGBT community.

Ok we’ve tried the angry “tell it like it is” dude before on council, as mayor, and as premier now. Let’s pls not fall for that old grift again.

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.

It’s surreal seeing it come full circle. The people stuck in the crowded Church Street sidewalk are now free to roam the streets! (At least during the 2 month pedestrianization pilot) Streets are for the people!

Was on Church Street last night to celebrate the pedestrian pilot passing at City Council and saw what originally inspired me to propose pedestrianizing it in the first place—sidewalks so crowded that spill into the parking lane!

"Putin is going to lose this war" - CDN Prime Minister.

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Collins: You said you think that Ukraine is going to ultimately win this war. Is that a view that [Trump] seemed to share as well? Carney: We, the Germans, the UK, the French, all are of the view that the tide has turned in this war. It is a matter of time. Putin is going to lose this war.

I confess to loving the Sea to Sky scenery in the show, with the turquoise Pacific waters of Howe Sound standing in for a lake in Muskoka. But Barry's Bay and the "cottage culture" is so quintessentially Ontarian, I would have loved to see it actually set there. 😍 www.cbc.ca/arts/can-a-t...

There were over 46k Bike Share rides in Toronto yesterday, more than the average ridership of the Queen streetcar. The cost to the city to operate that streetcar was over $50k/day in 2015. Bike share costs the city $8k/day. 6x as cost efficient. Smart cities invest in cycling.

Seriously, the solution to "crowd management" is pedestrianization more often, in more places, and for longer. Instead, transportation services just used "risks associated with high attendance" as a reason to not support Church St. pedestrianization. There is so much rot at city hall.

ℳatt@matttomic.bsky.social

Every time my city has a street festival, there are complaints the next day about how crowded it was. And instead of recognizing this as a city's overwhelming demand for more festivals and pedestrianization, the powers-that-be treat it as an excuse to offer fewer festivals due to crowding risks
