Does anyone know anyone in Metro Vancouver who has been evicted when their apartment near a transit station was demolished or renovated? A trusted colleague is doing a research project, and offering $200 for a one-hour interview. Please respond to this thread or DM me.

Given my interests, I'm genuinely surprised I've never felt any desire to go on a Hallmark Christmas Cruise. Maybe it's a "wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member" thing? Or maybe it's because the hardcore fandom seems a little too intense for my tastes.

Like, I have my favourite actors and actresses from the Hallmark ecosystem, but I don't understand the appeal of spending time with them? Now if the cruises featured sessions with directors and set designers and writers telling stories from set? That's a whole different ball of Christmas lights.

They safely docked at noon Miami-time. Christmas is saved!

Back on my Christmas/holiday movie ranking bullshit for another year. 1. Black Christmas (1974) 2. Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story 3. Season's Greetings from Cherry Lane 4. 'Tis the Season for Setups 5. Happy Holidays from Cherry Lane 6. Deck the Halls on Cherry Lane

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Very little traffic in all voting stations. Bad weather in SW BC is no doubt suppressing voting, on top of all of the other reasons parties have given us for disillusionment and apathy PLEASE VOTE ANYWAY #bcpoli

The BC Conservatives, an absolute mess of a party full of racists and nuts, might get a commanding majority with 44% of the vote. This will be entirely on the BC NDP and Eby. Entirely. It'll be their fault for not getting rid of FPTP, and for calling an unnecessary election out of pure selfishness.

My husband is hiring for a Project Coordinator and a Senior Business Analyst. Largely remote but 1-2 days per week in office in New West. Both roles are contract. If this sounds like something any friends are interested in learning more about, I'll put you in touch.

Were you bitten or scratched by a skunk in the DT/ Stanley Park area between Sept 22 and Oct 17? Then you need to talk to a doctor ASAP and be assessed for potential rabies exposure. VCH said a skunk tested positive for rabies. Anyone exposed can be given a post-exposure vaccine and stay healthy.

Because there's not enough going on: Vancouver Coastal Health warns that rabies has been confirmed in Downtown Vancouver. Anyone who may have come in contact w/ "abnormally behaving skunk" downtown, West End or in Stanley Park (map) Sept 22-Oct 17 should call VCH public health ASAP: 604-675-3900

Apropos of nothing, we saw a handful of OneBC campaign signs during our drive between Vancouver and Dawson Creek earlier this month, and every single one of them gave the vibes of "this dude would be absolutely be first in line for 'gender inspection' duty for girls sports"...

Signed in to a Zoom Happy Hour that's supposed to start at 5pm but I think someone sent an old link in the RSVP confirmation email. "The meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 14." I wonder how long it will take for anyone at the host org to realize.

Also booked tickets to see The History of Concrete for Tuesday. Very excited. "After attending a workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark movie, filmmaker John Wilson attempts to utilize the same commercial formula to create and sell a documentary about the history of concrete." Yes, please.

Businesses getting all butt-hurt because they’re being called out for using genAI don’t realize the opportunity they’ve been given. I ask businesses not to use AI because I want to give them my business but won’t support AI. Most others I just pass by their AI ads/signage without saying anything

Ken Sim targeted @seanorr.bsky.social throughout the campaign and his tenure as mayor with various smears, making this poetry: "COPE’s Sean Orr received the highest number of votes of any council candidate, with 83,038—more than 15,000 more votes than Sim." ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar... #vanpoli

ctvnews.caHere’s who will serve on Vancouver city council under new mayorVancouver’s mayor-elect Pete Fry will be presiding over a council where no party has a majority.

This is *exactly* what I voted for.

cannot stop laughing at people going "WOW, VANCOUVER'S RAN BY COMMIES NOW. THEY'RE GOING TO DESTROY ALL THE ROADS AND REPLACE THEM WITH BIKE LANES AND SHOOT ALL THE LANDLORDS. IF YOU YOU DON'T OBEY THE LGBTS YOU'LL BE THROWN IN JAIL. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? IS THIS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR???"

Tonight is the start of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, so I’m back on my Christmas movie ranking bullshit. I’ll be watching the horribly named “‘Tis the Season for Set-ups” tonight at 5pm BC time if anyone wants to join me. It looks awful, I can’t wait. 🎄

OpenAI Says Ex-Employee Showed Its Device Plans to Apple

macrumors.comOpenAI Says Ex-Employee Showed Its Device Plans to AppleOpenAI today suggested Apple could be using its trade secrets, the very thing Apple is already suing OpenAI for. In a court filing, OpenAI accused an ex-employee of giving sensitive data about an unreleased product to Apple. The unnamed employee joined OpenAI from Apple and then returned after six months. OpenAI claims the person sent "over a hundred highly confidential files" to personal accounts, including manufacturing data and detailed images of at least one unreleased product. The former employee allegedly "made a presentation" on OpenAI product plans for Apple's senior leadership "months ago," and OpenAI is worried Apple could use that information to further its work on AI devices. OpenAI is very concerned that its trade secret and confidential information is now circulating inside Apple, where Apple engineers can shape Apple's upcoming products based on OpenAI's confidential and innovative work. OpenAI has raised these issues directly with Apple, but to date, Apple has not provided OpenAI with the requested assurances that Apple is not in possession of, and has not used, OpenAI's trade secret and confidential information. OpenAI asked the court for permission to investigate and pursue counterclaims if necessary. Apple told Reuters it has found no evidence to support OpenAI's claims and it has policies in place to ensure new employees do not use confidential information from previous employers. Apple and OpenAI have been involved in a tense legal battle since Apple sued OpenAI in July. Apple says OpenAI employees Chang Liu and Tang Tan stole trade secrets from Apple to develop new AI hardware. OpenAI called the lawsuit "careless, aggressive and oddly personal," stating that it does not "have, nor want, any of their trade secrets" because it is "much more interested in building innovative products and technologies that push the frontier." Yesterday, the court partially granted Apple's request for expedited discovery. OpenAI has up to two weeks to hand over forensic evidence as well as materials used when interviewing former Apple employees. Liu, Tan, and Alyssa Peng, Liu's former Apple colleague, will need to sit for depositions after Apple gets the requested information. Judge Edward Davila, who is overseeing the case, said during a hearing today that he is "highly likely" to grant a preliminary injunction prohibiting OpenAI from using Apple's allegedly stolen trade secrets. Bloomberg says an injunction would "mark a potential setback" for OpenAI's hardware development efforts.Tag: OpenAI This article, "OpenAI Says Ex-Employee Showed Its Device Plans to Apple" first appeared on MacRumors.com Discuss this article in our forums
