I recall the reaction to www.windowslatest.com/2025/12/24/m... - claims that it would be both irresponsible and impossible anyway, I think that not only has this been proven possible, it may in fact be the most responsible thing to do we must reduce the system-critical C/++ in the world

windowslatest.comMicrosoft building team to eliminate C and C++, translate code to Rust using AI, as Windows 11 adopts RustMicrosoft has a whole team dedicated to eliminating "every line of C and C++ from Microsoft by 2030," which includes Windows 11.

either my colleague was too enthusiastic about Swift's abilities when they told me that "in Swift, you should always favour FP" or i just haven't learnt enough about the language. why doesn't the standard library have a Monad protocol i can implement for my classes? why doesn't `any P` conform to P?

i really dislike this purity argument, where having some kinds of restricted mutation preserving strong guarantees is the same as “doing almost nothing to restrict normal mutability”

One reason games are so expensive is that you need to hire a lot of very expensive programmers rather than much cheaper creatives like writers and VAs, so it’s especially odd given the recently created Automated Programming Machine to go “let’s fire our creatives”. That’s the comparative advantage!

Do you think Fallout 5 is taking so long because Todd Howard can't find any more songs from the 50s that mention atom bombs

Previously I have posted about a Nintendo of Europe downloadable premium animated wallpaper that featured a bizarre Toad eating the wallpaper. The files have finally been datamined, allowing the Wallpaper-Eating Toad to be observed in never-before-seen maximum quality.

Hey friends, I’m looking for my next gig - ideally something deep in a perf-sensitive stack, somewhere in Rust land. Would appreciate a boost!

One of my coworkers has a printed sign on his wall, conspicuous visible in Google Meet, which reads "PERFORMANCE NUMBERS FOR BROKEN CODE DON'T COUNT" It's a helpful reminder whenever we have to consider correctness fixes which cause performance regressions!

PHP is burning. Node is burning. GitLab is burning. The certificate authorities have apparently been generating their private keys with an enchanted D6.

Another very based tweet by the Japanese PM. Cuts through the bureaucracy sysadmins have to deal with by telling them, "Client not answering the phone? Middle-management still dithering? Fuck 'em, just shut the website down, if they complain you can tell them I told you to do it"

Sydney Sweeney reveals in an interview that she doesn’t care about the PHP vulnerability because she moved everything to Rust in 2024. “They said the rewrite would take six months. We’re on month 30. We haven’t shipped a feature since, but I’m having a very normal Wednesday.”

BTW knowledge of the existence of this vulnerability enables a well financed malware group to use AI to find it, if you run PHP anything you should be taking the service down NOW until a patch is available. And then patch before bringing the service back up.

nightshade →home, for now@nightshade.technology

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.
