Hey! Today is my and @andreazanin.bsky.social's book birthday! More Than Two, Second Edition, is out now!
To say it took a LOT to make this book happen is an understatement. But I'm so glad it's finally here.
Please read, review, share...I hope you love it!

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.
300,000 fewer people in BC voted in 2026 than in 2024. 197,000 people voted Green.
The NDP got 250,000 fewer votes than in 2024. The Green Party got 20,000 more.
I'm getting real tired of people blaming a party that consistently gets its voters to the polls just because their party can't. #bcpoli
Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape.
Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.
Polyamory is often portrayed as a more "evolved" approach to relationships, but that doesn't make it immune to toxic or even abusive dynamics. In this episode, @everickert.bsky.social explores the darker side of polyamory. www.sexandpsychology.com/blog/podcast...
My recent research found that across Canada, publicly funded surgeries performed in for-profit facilities are 1.5-3x more expensive than performing them in public hospitals

Conservatives propose additional health care privatization in full platform: patients to receive a voucher for a private surgery if waits exceed the benchmark
Why not reduce surgical waits in the first place rather than pay 2-3x premium for privatized surgeries?

It does appear the "data center eliminated Nazi and otherwise fuckface bots" narrative is basically wishcasting, it does show you how popular getting rid of this shit would broadly be, and that maybe a smart person should run on it.
Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.
The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force.
Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon.
Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.
Canada. Hmm. Sounds Trumpian.
"The federal government has quietly stopped evaluating whether new gas power plants and oilsand facilities will damage Canada's rivers and lakes, air quality and species on the edge of extinction."

I know it’s hard to watch all these beautiful things be carried away by time and see the wrong things growing in their place. But listen. Listen. We have to be the beautiful things now. It has to be us. It has to be us. Courage.
Number 23 in the prehistoric bird series just found itself a new home in Germany. Primozygodactylus finding a tasty snack in a tree trunk, while a familiar onlooker peeps from behind the leaves. :)

EVERY STORY ABOUT BEAVERS FOR THE LAST DECADE READS LIKE: WE RELEASED A DOZEN PADDLE TAILED LITTLE FREAKS AND THEY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN A TERRAFORMING PROJECT THAT REVERSED A CENTURY OF ECOLOGICAL DAMAGE IN THREE WEEKS.
Y'all, The Vampire Lestat was bad. Really, really bad. Not "the book was better" bad. More like "what the fuck did I just watch?" bad.
The last two episodes were two of the most tedious two hours of media I've ever sat through.
Sam Reid killed it though. (With what he was given to work with.)
🧵LORENZO SALGADO ARAUJO
Better organized thread of vigils/protests for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
•Always check date/time
•Pls lmk about events I haven’t listed
If you were enraged by the executions of Renee Good & Alex Pretti, you should be enraged by the execution of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
They lied about killing Silverio Villegas González in Sept too. They think, with good reason, that it's easier to get away with summary executions of Mexican men.
If you were enraged by the executions of Renee Good & Alex Pretti, you should be enraged by the execution of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

ME: omg i have so much to do today
BRAIN: best i can do is none of it so that you don't feel bad for only doing some of it
ME: that doesn't make any sense
BRAIN: don't tell me how to do my job
Yesterday's pipeline announcement is yet another reminder that Prime Minister Carney cares more about lining the pockets of his corporate friends than upholding the Constitutional rights of Indigenous peoples and protecting the public from the escalating climate emergency. (1/6)
I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure.
Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.
Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!!
This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.
Thank you Feminist Press for giving “Coming Out Like a Porn Star” a second edition and so much support. The anthology is one of a number of books they offer on the subject of sex work.

IDGAF if someone has an "unfair advantage" in children's sports because the point of children's sports is for children to move their bodies, play, and build team skills.
They should be co-ed anyway, because in the big grown-up world boys and girls and thems need to work together.
I need y'all to understand that I teach high school and there are teenagers already planning to leave the U.S. to because they will be studying science or medicine. They are SO serious about it - saving money, learning extra languages, and looking to see if there are familial connections abroad.
You may have heard about the OMB rule change that will put politics over federal grants. However bad you think it is? It's probably worse. Thanks to @theverge.com for letting me report this one out.
There is still time to comment.

What *actually* works — right here, right now — to address climate change?
Here you go.
This is the result of thousands of hours of painstaking research and analysis from the Project Drawdown team.
Could happen in Canada too.
If we ask our politicians for it.
Check out www.pluginsolarpower.ca. And send a politician a message. That Canadians deserve the ability to produce their own power. Even renters.
The BC NDP coming up with this dumbass scheme to bail out private developers with the same amount of money, or more, that used to go to purpose-built affordable rentals is especially galling.
I truly don't know what's wrong with these people. It's such bad optics on every level.
It's 100% about bailing out developers who misjudged the market.
Because it's not enough that we let developers basically run the housing market, to the detriment of pretty much anyone who isn't able to afford million dollar properties, we also have to protect the developers from their own mistakes.
FWIW, I interviewed with LabX Media last year for a marketing job with Discover.
Ultimately it came down to “too much experience/too senior” like most of my interviews.
I found the people I spoke with were professional and really nice. I hope this goes as well as it can, SciAm friends.
Employees at Scientific American were told today that the magazine has been sold to LabX Media Group, the outfit that runs Discover Magazine and IFLScience. And that means -- of course! -- editorial layoffs.
The media mass extinction rolls ever onward.
So I currently have simultaneous crushes on two people who are close friends, and for the first time in many years have found myself having fantasies centred on kitchen-table polyamory.
So it seems either I’ve healed enough, or the relationships of the specific people involved in this fantasy (which is nowhere near becoming reality BTW), to each other and to me, are healthy enough, that KTP suddenly seems workable/healthy to me again (under certain circumstances).
And I am remembering the really lovely experiences I had with KTP in the early days of my nonmonogamy, and just how truly NICE it can be when it works.
So I currently have simultaneous crushes on two people who are close friends, and for the first time in many years have found myself having fantasies centred on kitchen-table polyamory.
Which is wild to me because after being badly burned by toxic polyamorous group dynamics (and watching the same happen to people close to me), I’d imagined I’d been pretty well put off KTP for life.
