Here are a bunch of things that are simultaneously true: *Political violence is bad *The system worked last night *The right, including Trump, is constantly calling for political violence *Criticizing Trump and noting he’s a fascist—which he IS—is not a call for violence

everything we are seeing now is the consequence of having a political environment in which indifference to the deaths and suffering of other people - even by the state whose supposed responsibility is to safeguard their welfare - is a superpower rather than a political liability

The POLITICS (tm) that will occur if Iran somehow actually manages to sink a U.S. Navy vessel will create discourse hitherto unimagined by man or beast.

U.S. TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT STATED THAT IT WAS ALWAYS PART OF THE PLAN FOR THE U.S. NAVY OR AN INTERNATIONAL COALITION TO POTENTIALLY ESCORT TANKERS, ACCORDING TO SKY NEWS.

Privatizing youth sports has been bad for society. “Bowling alone” (Putnam) describes the same problem as “baseball (and most winter sports) mostly for middle/upper class cliques.” The ideological attack on the public sphere has gone on far too long.

NBC ran a piece where Mary Carrillo went to Norway to find out why they're so good at the Winter Olympics and i was yelling BECAUSE IT'S COLD THERE then she went to a little tiny ski jump for kids and was like "it's free, equipment is provided, & they don't emphasize results" and i was like. oh!

1. It was not an accident. 2. It was not a staffer. 3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia. 4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares. 5. His base agrees with him. 6. He will do it again. 7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

We need to teach people the difference between being uncomfortable and being unsafe. Because the discomfort of the safest people is endangering the most vulnerable, all day every day.

AOC discovering that the online left is a collection of the worst, most toxic people on the planet, whose sole function in life is to set up arbitrary, shifting purity tests so they can preen about their superior moral virtue while doing fuck-all to improve anything. Fuck them, AOC for president.

My record on Palestine speaks for itself. I’m proud of it. One of the strongest in Congress. I throw down for pro-Palestine candidates. Largely unrecognized work. That’s fine. Disagreements are fine, too. But if you want to toss all that for 1 half assed MTG stunt, be my guest. I know where I stand.

Terrific journalism analysis here that should be the last word in the latest Mamdani kerfuffle.

1/ The NYT is a great institution in a lot of ways. Many many people produce fantastic work. It is the least compromised of our major news outlets. It's problem has always been its arrogance. Almost all of its violations, big and small, can be traced back to that.

“The New York Times collaborated with a white nationalist eugenicist hacker and agreed to keep his identity a secret to publish a Zohran Mamdani hit piece” is a way bigger story than “18 year old Zohran Mamdani ticked ‘African American’ on his Columbia application because he was a citizen of Uganda”

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government. No one has heard from you in 111 days. As vigil, I’m posting a photo or video of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

Where are the libertarians? Where is civil society? Do you want to live in a country where people are deported without due process into foreign gulags? Where US senators are arrested? Where the government ignores court orders and deploys the military on the streets of our cities?

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee: “Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

Personally, I think it’s easier for the press to dwell on “Did Biden enable Trump by deciding to run?” than “Did Biden enable Trump by not being aggressive enough with the DOJ?,” because Trump’s a winner in the first scenario and a criminal in the second.

With spring tour on-going, time for some obligatory #phish content from Tuesday BGCA. The first hour of set 2 is stellar, but I had to miss the transcendent truth of the 30 minute Tweezer on Wednesday :( Yes there is more to life than politics! Collective JOY is a big part of why I love this band.

Anyone still supporting this immoral, anti-American hypocrite knows jack shit about history & should fuck all the way off into the sun. That goes double for privileged Bay Area tech brat sociopaths who think they are gods gift to humanity while demonstrating the media literacy of disabled clowns.

"It is the height of historical irony that Trump, who so skillfully availed himself of his own 'due process' to delay & stall his 94 criminal charges — 94! — long enough to return to the presidency & escape them entirely is now the one seeking to rob the rest of us of that tradition & protection."

Let’s be very clear. This level of detail sent via this medium to this audience is not at all about operational necessity or ‘need to know.’ This is a CHILD trying to show off his new toys to friends he is trying to impress.

FamousMockingbird reposted

Trump, yesterday: “Schumer is a Palestinian, as far as I’m concerned. He’s become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. He’s not Jewish anymore. He’s a Palestinian.” Schumer, today: I will vote for your enabling act, sir.

I have to say: Chuck Schumer is a weak man and a fool. This was the one cudgel Dems had. Now it's up to the courts which we new from the beginning were at best going to slow some things down. There's 18 hours left to somehow bring additional pressure to bear. It will be really hard to do that.

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them. Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”

GLENN: Why don't you wear a suit? You're at the highest level in this country's office & you refuse to wear a suit. A lot of Americans have problems with you not respecting the office. ZELENSKYY: I will wear a costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours. Maybe something better.

Why would we abandon the prosperous, democratic nations of Europe, our allies for one hundred years, to "partner" with weak, poor Russia, a longtime adversary and dictatorship currently in the middle of an unprovoked invasion of a neighboring state? Treason. It's treason

The upper class must be brought to heel. Their well funded political aggression, before & after Citizens United, has gradually eroded democratic culture & is now indecent, immoral confiscation of our national heritage. There's no sign of regret from Wall St. dupes bc they are just as greedy/depraved

Agree, agree, and everyone who wants can be a party actor. Nothing wrong with pushing party leaders, but if you're bashing Dems (or NYT headline writers!) more than you're talking about the people on an anti-Constitution crime spree, you might want to consider whether that's the best choice.
