I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

The reaction to this should be like in Brasil. Amplify it and don't whine about the Bidens.

Off the charts Trump family corruption. Kushner got Billions of foreign funds, while spearheading foreign policy. And the Hunter Biden hunters are silent. @MarshaBlackburn

Wow.

Just installed my 26-year-old copy of Word on a new desktop. I will never pay subscription fees for software I already paid for. I will go live in a shack in the woods first.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

If still debating whether Donald Trump or Elon Musk willfully crippled Ukraine's missile defense, helping to slay innocent civilians, you are a rube. If the U.S. President had no role, then an oligarch governs national security. If not, the U.S. President serves Russia. Both answers are mortifying.

It would be grand, then, if the Government of Canada would terminate any use of X/Twitter. And don't say, "Oh, we need it to get our messages out," because then you are "caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider."

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Mark Carney on what Elon Musk's throttling of Starlink means for Canada: "We do not want to be caught in a situation where we are reliant on one provider that puts Canadians at risk or compromises our sovereignty, our ability to express our values and live our values."

The end of this is "Planet Trump"

😳 WOMAN REPORTER: Do sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sex abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

This is quite the take.

16. Governments protect men like Elon Musk. They are how he became an alleged trillionaire. But government protection becomes optional in times of war. Zelensky needs Starshield. He doesn’t need Musk. If I were an oligarch like him, I would be careful around open windows.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

Psaki: Even in ruby red Alabama, enthusiasm for Trump and his gimmick seems to be waning. Here was the scene from inside the venue at Trump's big Alabama rally tonight. Trump couldn't even fill half the seats in the arena

I don't think that's true. I'm listening to Angine de Poitrine right now, among others, and nobody is saying they don't deserve success, or complain they are sold out everywhere. They are celebrated, among other thing, for this really weird thing that they are not AI! People love artists.

Freya Holmér@freya.bsky.social

I genuinely don't understand why so many people have an almost instinctual feeling that artists don't deserve success, or worse, that success is somehow necessarily antithetical to being a true artist it's like there's no way to win, except for total self-sacrifice and devaluing of your work

I've worked for artists a lot. I code and my experience with artists is fabulous. They use my boring code to create beauty. Sometimes I come up with something and they say : you're a wizard. But usually I do a demo and Jason says "let me make it a little better" He's a liar. It's always much better.

Wait! Theology what?

I’m grateful for @karenattiah.bsky.social voice and leadership for many reasons. Today I’m grateful for the conversation she’s facilitating about children’s rights, including the problematic role Christian narrative and theology play in our current culture’s inability to adequately protect children.

This courage— from the woman who witnessed and filmed Alex Pretti’s murder—is like nothing I’ve ever seen OMG 😭 Thank you to Senator Blumenthal and Rep. Garcia for giving Stella an opportunity to finally tell her story.

America, spend some time watching Mark Carney dealing with Trump’s offensive and illegal trade war. It will remind you what a leader should be and make you deeply embarrassed at the face we currently show the world.

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since you’re more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.

Private healthcare paid by the government :) Also It's well know from us people living in a social democraty that public servants usually have better overall coverage than the rest of us, and they are also the most reluctant to any change anywhere.
