ok one more post about this dumb bullshit because I can't help myself and then I promise the next one will be a hot lady in armor: the hit rate on seeing someone say 'arcade games are just designed to steal money from kids' opening their profile and seeing they play gacha games is almost 100%

I think what made me like attempting them more recently is something Blader said about you shouldn’t try to be attempting these in a few hours sessions, but actually do your 1 or 2 attempts and then take the L and take a break and do something else.

The current round of 1cc discourse reminded me of how stupid ppl are about conflating run based with difficult constantly, all the more baffling in an age of roguelites. Arcade games arent gonna be completely effortless, but there are a lot of games u can 1cc after a handful of runs or blind

Gamest was mentioned, and I just had to remind people that they had the coolest jacket slogan ever "The Future Kick Your ASS!!" I had a friend with that jacket, and I was oh, so jealous.

would have turned me into an arcade game fan if you went back in time to when i was 13 and gave me a copy. without you having to tell me which mode to play, or what a 1CC is, or that you promise that having to repeat the same stages every time you die isn't that bad etc

I actually did exactly that in my beat em up where it boots you into practice mode on the stage you game overed in with the same character and everything

A random internet chud spoke about arcade games positively 20 years ago and turned out to be a crazy racist. This internet beef is so important & formative that I will now shape my whole view of games as a reaction to this individual

i wanna get into final fight sometime because everyone who plays it for 1cc seems to be like holy shit this is one of the best games ever made

Painful review of the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle on Steam that really highlights how destructive the continue system was to people's perception of arcade games. The beat 'em ups mentioned play wildly different from one another if you're actually trying to survive on 1 credit.

as you play the game, you unlock more continues. continues can be used after you game over to resume playing, or fed to your virtual pet "Wubly", who will die if they dont eat enough continues.

A lot of what attracts people to continues can easily be solved by robust practice modes now that we all own the games we buy. Its more benefitial to push the practice culture arcade players already engage with (through save states), then the alternative

There are already easier and harder arcade style games, both in the past and in modern day. I think in my ideal world, having those easier games would be enough of an onramp for new hobbyists. Rather than compromise the core structure of the game by adding checkpoint or continue systems.

It's for the benefit of sweats too, literally who the fuck wants to explain for the 50000th time what 1cc's are and why they're valid when giving a game rec, or god forbid talking about how scoring isn't a relic. Over a decade of this bs and the needle barely moved

How do you think ppl who view them as mindless button mashers change their mind? There's nothing hypothetical about this person, a huge chunk (most?) current bmup fans were that person until they either tried to 1cc or it was forced on them in Fight N Rage, SOR4, Final Vendetta, whatever

I think people who like arcade style games and who like other type of games should become peaceful and be friends. Yuri between arcade game and other game. It's beautiful.

They aren't going somewhere they already left, and games esp arcade games with continues are unique compared to other mediums because they don't automatically impress themselves upon u like a song or film would - they require cultural understanding of the structure to work in the most relevant sense

Please help if you can 🙏🏽 Juliet is a kind and passionate person. She helps connect trans folks in the gaming space and could use some help. Trans women have such a hard time, and this moment in time is especially tough for trans folks. Give if you can.

today's reacquired 1CCs were Miracle Adventure/Spinmaster and Special Criminal Investigation. I think these were both originally Calice Cup 2022 clears? I'm not a big fan of Spinmaster but SCI is still sick

I think that’s because in a normie’s mind, you’re supposed to play through the entire game only once and with as minimal resistance as possible, and whatever exists “outside” of that easy single playthrough experience is sort of optional. Like campaign vs VR missions in MGS

FG players, rhythm game players, and racing game players know that practice is part of the core experience. But some of you act surprised when someone likes singleplayer arcade stuff and uses practice tools. Suddenly, practice is not part of the core experience. Alright. #Arcade

the cool thing about really basic fundamental stuff like "contact damage" is it's less a 'mechanic' in the modern sense and more an ideological lynchpin for the entire game. it's like talking about adding or removing auto-scrolling from a 2D shooter- two different genres emerge

whenever players use a trick like this (or like a boss loop etc) in an arcade game, i often see non-players assume that the trick must be the only way to defeat an otherwise unfair challenge. so i figured i'd show that this section's intended difficulty is still in line with everything else.

all of the flames in final fight stage 4 will miss you if you never move up or down from your starting position. most people (including me) play it that way because it's easy. so here's how it looks when played as intended! it's still not too hard; just use dropkicks, superjoys and flame damage.

reacquired the Strania 1CC today. EX version, so Normal mode has the TLB (a change for the better imo) what a sick game! really gotta get Side Vower cleared eventually

i got the final fight 1CC (haggar, hardest difficulty)!!! i'll record commentary later but for now i'm very happy with myself! it's easily my favourite beat 'em up, and it's up there with gun.smoke (arcade) as one of my favourite games of all time. give it a try!

Mason reposted

i did it at the tail end of 2024 😎 anyway it's the absolute best video game of the entire 1980s and everyone that likes action games should give clearing it an honest shot

2026 really was the year of Final Fight! So many of us cleared it for the first time this year

I cleared #Gunvein #Intense on a single credit! It took me 25 hours! Though, I am seeing that with shmups I get to carry the sum of my total experience in with me, which is nice. I'm sure it would take a lot longer if it was my first shmup! Full run in the replies! #1CC
