Facebook back in 2021 temporarily turned off the “drive people insane” setting and it completely changed what people were seeing. They turned it back on when engagement dipped by like 1 percent.

And I mean, it is not like we don’t know how to prevent billionaires and billionaire criminals buying up the means to cripple and direct democracy. We know very well how to do that, and anyone who makes any headway advocating for it gets crushed by our politicians and media outlets, acting together.

Just Bleed Guy is a spirit that left James Ladner's body when the UFC started implementing rules. The man went on to become an accountant, but the spirit still haunts places of extreme and horrific entertainment, where sportsmen fear to tread

Come to think of it, getting a french press really improved my life as a coffee drinker. As I eye my tired old laptop, my mind wandering to how I'm going to possibly afford a replacement in this market...

It is funny (in the joker way, as per usual) how so many people's lives were completely shattered over copyright trolling from companies who treated downloading a song as a capital offense but the moment they could make money on it themselves it instantly stopped being relevant

They hounded Aaron Swartz to death for downloading papers from jstor but society is now supposed to just accept mass theft because this thing can write that TPS report *for* you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_S...

Society parried the ozone layer, acid rain, and Y2K back to back and instead of going "wow, parrying is badass" a lot of people went "society didn't even get hit so I guess there's no need to learn how to parry" and instantly took a thousand hits

Eniko Fox@enikofox.com

we live in a sick society that thinks preventing problems is a waste of time and effort and hey, guess why everything sucks now

My horrible violent novella got accepted to #SFINCS4!!!! Honestly stoked I made it this far, I was pretty late to submit something so I'm just happy to be on the list. I hope I meet some cool writers during judging.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

For any confused Americans, dogging is a traditional British term for walking the dog, if you're ever over here and see someone with their pet make sure to tell them how much you love dogging. That nothing makes you happier than seeing that wagging tail and panting mouth out on the heath.

Pac had the most beautiful finisher in wrestling, and for a long time he had a look & vibe I would describe as "underwear goblin." Though he was as good as literally any leading-man wrestler on earth, he excelled as a character actor in the ring. He was a fixture of my wrestling life. I'll miss him.

Interestingly, I've noticed AI fans approach almost every interaction like this. They're hilariously thin-skinned, seething at the indication that you're not going to fawn over them. Makes them easy to spot early, at least.

Right, okay everybody, I’ve had a lot of meetings and talks this week and I have to share some top line thoughts. Things are quite a bit worse than i am usually willing to share with people because panic does no good. It’s kinda bad. The baddies have the wind at their back. No denying that.

Keep forgetting this shit cuz we hate marketing, but I (Abi, half of FxOx) wrote some sickass cyberpunk novellas you might like. FFO: Gibson et al, Palahniuk, outlaw comics

no, see, that's in fact extremely NOT what you are, that's just a cute poetic metaphor. this is an extreme diminishment of what a human is (also dualism again, "you" aren't only inside your skull but also the skull and all the other body parts)

Skill issue. Right wingers have been attempting to make art, many of their films have been very heavily publicised, as have a few of their books. The only tyranny at play is that of public taste. No one wants shitty art, sorry.

I have to hand it to Bret Stephens: this is a devastating argument, just not the way he meant. He looked back *ten years* but couldn't come up with *any* books by "straight white males on the political right" that should've been award contenders because he knows there aren't any, they're all trash.

We keep yelling about this. More people are noticing

I'm not a doctor so I don't know the words for it but I did spend a lot of my 20s scamming people so I'm aware of the phenomena: people who've been worked usually hate it if someone points out that they've been worked. They're prolly embarrassed, or there's some cognitive shit afoot idk the name of

Haven't found a surefire way to get through to a mark that I'm trying to unwork, usually a conciliatory tone and gentle prodding to examine their source does the trick but, as today will attest, not always.

The guy unblocked me to call me a "low life loser" (accurate, up the punx) who "spends too much time on social media" (wildly inaccurate, probably projection), then block me again. Some people's egos won't even let them entertain the possibility that they've been conned, it's really sad to see :(
