Apropos about nothing… Seeing a new raft of WW2 films gets me agitated because the one book that deserves a big screen adaptation is “The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors.” Perhaps they don’t have the technology to properly capture the size & weight of USS Johnson’s brass balls...

A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

The thing about Obama’s Cheesecake Factory chirp is that you know that it got under the dirty 🍊 bastard’s skin. Call him racist & sexist - he will shrug it off. Call his interior decorating style akin to Liberace & LeRoy Neiman having a blindfolded gold leaf paint ball fight, different story

I know this is a matter of personal taste but I wish the first statue at Providence park would be Timber Jim and/or Christine Sinclair. That said, I could settle for Chara. Anything to get rid of the two ugly face sculptures.

I will give Anthropic credit, compared to the SpaceX S1 documents, they sound relatively sane. … and “relatively” I mean still crawling on the ceiling chanting from the Book of the Dead crazy but not eating glue & sniffing snuff like Major Hogan during the height of the Peninsula campaign.

Same. My daughter played ice hockey. Soccer, lacrosse and did fencing with boys while growing up. Was a D1 athlete in college where men and women fenced each other, and still played coed rugby for fun. Girls don’t need or want anyone’s patronizing BS “protection.”

I am not a member of the Oregon Bar so I am asking rather than suggesting - is setting up a public, online harassment campaign against someone with the intent to defame & cause mental harm be grounds for a civil lawsuit?

Hey @thornsfc.com when you allow these bigots in the stadium it makes this community less safe. Ban them forever. #RCTID #SoccerCityUSA #RoseCity

Some hateful folks in the North End have their messaging blocked by flags and lead to a “Trans Lives Matter” chant

If it is what I think it is… truly an end of an era. I’ve been mentally preparing myself for this & know it’s been time for a while… but still, doesn’t dilute the sting. Can’t imagine a Timbers team without him on the team sheet. #rcrid

Hybrid presser with Diego Chara set for Monday, along with a youtube live stream. Make of that what you will. #RCTID

Will say who ever is doing the messaging & ads for Tina Kotek is doing a hell of a job. Used good authentic voices to make her case & draw a contrast in a poignant succinct manner. Had Drazen so well defined, so quickly that the challenger has had to use almost all of her ads to try to refute.

Just a reminder: Bill Evans - An amazing jazz pianist of the 20th century which I recommend “Waltz for Debbie” , “Sunday at the Village Vanguard” , & “Undercurrent” as essential records to own and treasure. Billy Evans - a vile, disgusting human being who is the partner of Elizabeth Holmes.

See… this is where I would fail as an SNL writer because I would write a sketch where Bill Evans just plays “Alice in Wonderland” in the background as Elizabeth Holmes & Nathan Fielder do their stare off …

Been reading a lot about post-Nixon politics. So much of the roots of Trump’s support came from those with the central grievance that Nixon was unfairly persecuted & that Ford’s pardon proved it was all political theater & not criminal. Can we not make that same mistake again.

What gets me is it was obvious from the start that the proponents of the “fast & dirty MODA deal” felt that Dundon would give them credit for their proactivity & reflect their good will back. A simple Google search of his previous business dealings shows how absolutely foolish that strategy was.

I’m begging people to stop thinking of AI & technology in general as agnostic & neutral entities. Any technology - especially AI - is the direct reflection of those who build, operate, maintain, & profit from it. This is why I think it is long past due to revision of 47 U.S.C. § 230.

There is no world in which I will vote in favor of removing the first-class clause, and it's not something the Mayor can do unilaterally. This man has secured a path to roughly a billion in public subsidy for a stadium deal (despite my opposition) and still cries poor. We deserve better than this.

The Oregonian@oregonian.com

Negotiations between Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon and Portland officials have stalled over a $1 billion settlement demand tied to the team's first-class arena maintenance clause, with Dundon pushing for a 10-year buyout option rather than the required 20-year lease commitment. https://mrf.lu/2bWJc

There is apart of me that thinks AI firms know the jig is up. They are trying any way to get the public on their side for the eventual ask of trillion dollar bailout. They’re running out of private equity money, markets are mocking their valuations, & bond market have them marked for junk.

The only reason relocation "hangs" over the Blazers negotiations in Portland is because the media keep bringing it up. There are no superior available markets/offers, and there's not even a hard deadline to complete a deal.

Mike Vorkunov@mikevorkunov.bsky.social

Relocation hangs over the Blazers' negotiations with city of Portland. It has gone unsaid in public, but not privately, sources said, though Tom Dundon said it's “not a conversation.” “We are working to keep the team in Portland," Dundon said. "That is the priority.” www.nytimes.com/athletic/769...

Voting tonight. Only thing I am struggling with is the 2% measure. I like the idea & intent. However at the same time been in similar budgeting room. Hate limiting scarce discretionary funds to further limit budgeting flexibility & address emergencies.

Anti-tax movements are, at their core, simply people that don't understand how society works and are resentful that it imposes any demands on them.

“I’m young and healthy, why would I pay for Medicare?” “I’m mid-career & working, why would I pay for Social Security?” “I’m not a veteran, why should I pay for the VA?” I guarantee if I asked any of these questions to these selfish pr*cks they would probably try to fight me.

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

corruption and fraud above a certain amount should be treated as seriously as murder. because fraud kills. corruption kills. when a congressman pushes a bill to, say, build a highway because they personally will make $3 million selling land for that project, we should lock them up for life.
