I think he really thought he was giving his kids a godlike gift by ensuring they were male, b/c he believes men are inherently higher value than women. His daughter transitioning is rejecting that amazing gift he gave, & rejecting his values by being what he tried to protect her from being.

I am unbelievably frustrated that New Hampshire Democratic Primary Voters have so little imagination that we sent Chris Pappas, a deeply uninspiring candidate, to the General in this election.

If you want to stop trafficking, the place to start is safe, affordable, and accessible legal pathways.

Yael Schacher@yaelschacher.bsky.social

Just gonna say what every historian knows. Anti trafficking discourse has always been compatible with anti immigrant discourse.

This also suggests that Johnson doesn't have faith he can prevent the House from voting to Impeach, so he'd rather just shut things down for a bit and hope this goes away.

If this is confusing, imagine your roommate is going to buy an Ikea Billy bookcase, and so you loan them $50 to pay for half of it, and they write an IOU on a post-it saying so. But then, before you get paid next week, you say "that bookcase is now worth $2M." and you both agree and update the note.

It's gonna get REAL ugly here in New England when people realize that their Heating Oil is more or less the same thing as Diesel Fuel.

Patrick De Haan@gasbuddyguy.bsky.social

diesel is closing in on a $6/gal national average as wholesale prices surge tonight 13c/gal with new attacks and threats. BUT the real story may be out West- California could blow past $8/gal, and some pumps aren't even built to display what could come next.

Need to ask everyone running in the NH Dem House Primaries coming up if they'll commit to telling Jeffries to Fuck Off.

i am very certain that ditching gas is why my oldest didn't develop asthma after being pretty clearly pre-asthmatic

Sammy Roth@sammyroth.bsky.social

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

Worth noting that $200,000 in 2022 suggests that the Median US Household at that time either doesn't own their home, or still owes the majority of the principal on their homes.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

Elon Musk’s net worth of $1.1 trillion is five million times as large as that of the typical family. The median American household had a net worth of just under $200,000 in 2022, the year with the most recent data available from the Federal Reserve. nyti.ms/4aL8sNH

Okay, bear with me for a second. Because I've held this theory for a long time. And I kinda feels like this confirms it. The death of Harambe was the tipping point of no return for the unserious right-wing turn of America. 🧵

Imagine eating this much boot leather without the excuse that someone threatened to kill your family.

What you write in an “editor’s note” at the end of a story when you are definitely a credible news outlet running reporting by a legitimate journalist

I get a lot of people don't trust Democrats. But the time to bring in Democrats who want change is now, in the Primaries. You can't fix what's wrong with US Politics in November.

One of the first indiscriminate bombings of a civilian population in War was The Blitz in London, which famously failed to break the will of the British people to fight, exactly as it has failed to break the will of any people it's been attempted on for nearly a century, but they just keep trying it

Trump: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Having driven the length and breadth of this country a couple of times, this is very true. What's also weird is how moving to New England has caused drives that I used to regularly engage in back West now seem like way too much time and effort.

I remember when I drove from Texas to Oregon for my seasonal wildland firefighting job 99% of what I drove through was just absolutely nothing.

I sincerely hope Lindsay Graham has had to drink himself to sleep every night for the last decade.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

LINDSEY GRAHAM: Our goal is to make sure Iran cannot become again the largest state sponsor of terrorism. WELKER: Does the the president have a plan to guarantee that happens? GRAHAM: No. It's not his job.

I distinctly remember how much people complained about how "we didn't elect Hilary" in the 90s when she was simply lobbying Congress for legislation, a thing literally anyone is allowed to do.

This is not how the Security Council works. Our unaccomplished, inarticulate, unqualified Third Lady has no business there and it’s an insult to the world to send her.

I don't want Term Limits, I want to normalize running real Primaries against incumbents every single cycle. I want to eliminate parties deciding on "presumptive" nominees months before any Primary votes are cast.

Josh Chafetz@joshchafetz.bsky.social

There's significant evidence from state legislative term limits that they do, in fact, empower both lobbyists and state executive branches. "Disagreeing" without offering any counter-evidence is just vibes.

Anyway, if you're out here clamoring about how Congress needs to do something about 230 to crack down on Zuck...you're just playing into exactly what these tech billionaires want. The ones who will actually feel the brunt of it are (1) startups and (2) all of us who regularly engage online.

You are up to date.
