I do think yesterday’s results reinforced the dynamic that while much of the American leadership class is chickenshit, most of the electorate is not

@aoc.bsky.social says of Mamdani victory: "A lot of people...are willing to talk about party unity when it serves them, but not party unity when it serves everybody." "We have a future to fight for, and we're either going to do that together or you're going to be left behind."

Each Monday morning, I throw a fantasy football stat thread together. As a reminder, these are not takes. This is just data. More context is always important. This is the Week 4 data dump.

If you don't already, watch Colbert. He is a man with no more f*cks left to give. And it's glorious. Check out this song parody from last night's show: Mike Johnson Delays House Epstein Vote Until September

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home. Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

The data is undeniable: •15 of top 16 states with the highest rates of infant mortality are red states that deny/ban repro access. •12 of top 13 states with the lowest rates of infant mortality are blue states that protect repro access. Why is this even a debate? www.qasimrashid.com/p/three-year...

You are the ones conflating opposition to Israel's genocide and antisemitism! It is abundantly clear that the pro-Palestine movement is motivated by moral offense at the mass killing of innocent people, not antisemitism.

Oh cool, here's an @npr.org editor saying flat out that giant nationwide protests aren't "compelling" unless there's some kind of crime or vandalism, ie, unless there's a right-wing spin to put on it. If it's *merely* hundreds of thousands of citizens exercising their right to protest, meh, boring.

npr.orgHow does NPR cover peaceful protests when the only news is the protest?Violence and vandalism although rare, tend to get mentioned

I've said this a million times but I'll say it again: the Dems constantly debating in public about whether to fight, and where to fight, and what language to use in fighting, and whether this is the right fight ... all of that just loudly broadcasts *weakness*, no matter what they conclude.

The business community wanted Trump because no one told them that he's a senile old man surrounded by nazis. The media instead sold a fake version of Trump that was a genius businessman. The reality has been somewhat startling to them!

There are pages and pages of this stuff. Hard to overstate how badly the White House is torching potential for economic activity rn. www.dallasfed.org/research/sur...

Here's a dissertation topic for a media studies major: analyze how the right-wing propaganda machine made "Russia" into a synecdoche for the overreach & hysteria of Trump critics, even as Trump more & more nakedly behaves as an agent of Russian interests.

It’s infuriating beyond belief that Democrats are constantly defined by “defund the police”, “war on Xmas”, “open borders” and countless other bullshit right-wing narratives while Republicans are always allowed to distance themselves from the terrible things they actually do.

Look I agree that Elon Musk appears to be on a lot of drugs every time he appears in public. That's not very interesting to me. I'm more interested in how many drugs he can do at once. I think he could probably do more than anyone ever. I bet he could take way more than the doctors say is safe.
