Anno 1604 takes way longer to polish than expected. I am finally satisfied with assets and animations but turned our the whole game was running at 10fps. So now we are back at 60fps but it was a fight! Want to rip out the old drawing code that's still running in parallel (on the CPU)

Decided to throw away the "patching game state" idea for Settlers 4 because its a rabbit hole. Desyncs can easily spread in milliseconds across the whole state. Repairing it is overly complex. Instead following the save->reload route again. Having it down to just a few seconds so its actually usable

It helped to rewrite it in c. Python was good for testing feasibility but super slow. Anno 1602 also needs more work. The upscaled assets often dont respect proper tiling. Getting this right is... time consuming. Will report back :)

Fixing desyncs in Settlers IV proved to be difficult. One idea literally automatically saved the game after desync, reconstructed saves for the other players, rehosted / rejoined the game and loaded the save. Patching directly is a rabbit hole. Object id's are different for each player.

Right now, the game is paused, a valid state is distributed over the games own network connection and then the game patches all faults. The issue with that is, that there are way too many game states and checking every single one will take ages.

I started fixing / improving old games. ✅ Anno 1602 (high res textures) Now working on getting a patch for Settlers IV to fix desync issues when playing multi-player games with Ai players in it (game Ai. Not llm Ai!) Will open source what I can without getting in legal trouble 😬

This has been cooking for so long. I am excited for the official release! :)

The @e18e.dev framework tracker is nearing an official release. We have worked hard to include a wide array of stats on meta-framework performance, including data from HTTP Archive. See below for a sneak peek at the percentage of sites in each framework that meet the benchmark. 🧵

@mattpocock.com I have questions! :) I use wayfinder a lot and it is amazing. At the start it often asks me where to go with this whole thing (specs, mvp, ...) How do I use wayfinder when I am done with the mvp? I want more now. But it doesnt seem to behave as awesome as when you initially call it

It goes without saying that I am absolutely in love with wayfinder. I had a similar setup (no graph, only tickets) which didnt come close. Thank you so much!

Who thought that moving some images from A to B could be that hard? Well, it isn't really. But then: - you need to read the file - hash it to detect duplicates - extract EXIF data - decode it - scale it for speedy thumbnails and feature detection - detect those features to group similar ones

And then, at some point, you realize that Chrome isn't necessarily the fastest solution when you need to decode an image. Even with the 20% WASM tax, JPG and PNG hashing and decoding runs faster in WASM than natively in Chrome. Obviously, this is under my specific circumstances.

That, along with a lot of dumber optimizations, reduced load time in my app by about 66%. So what do we learn? Benchmarks are fun! :D (And never assume something. Always measure)

I am gonna start cross posting my linkedIn content here. I feel like it actually belongs more here than there because it is rather random stuff anyways 😬

Every year, my mum comes to me and says: "Can you please download all photos from Google Fotos? I want to sort and print them". At this point I am convinced that noone should use Google Fotos and I am actively looking for a better solution.

That being said: After going through the painful process of downloading all pictures, the next challenge is sorting. "How do I drag and drop again? Did I delete something? Where did my window go?" I finally had the time to build an app that even my mum can use (hopefully - tbd).

most of these github actions driven breaches are because of pull_request_target. here's some tips of what to look for when reviewing your own workflows. worth noting - it is safe, and necessary, when used correctly 🧵

Vue support in TanStack Form is going to get much better when Vue 3.6 drops. We just had a major blocker fixed through a merge upstream by @fuzzyma.bsky.social Excited for this one!

Replying to @npmx.dev

We're dreaming big with npmx. The way we'll make a lasting difference is by banding together. Check out @whitep4nth3r.com’s post to learn how to get involved in open source. Everyone is welcome.

To celebrate the launch of the @npmx.dev alpha, I wrote up a guide on how to make your first contribution to an open-source project. Let me know if this helps you make your first contribution (and it doesn't have to be code)!

i have a growing @e18e.dev roadmap of very useful tools we could all benefit from to make it happen, we need two things: sponsors, and leads/champions 👀 if you're interested in either, come chat to me and i'd be happy to show you through the roadmap we have!

People told me they don't recognize me when they see my profile picture. So here is a new one. You have to admin that the old one totally looks like me, right??

How often do you rewrite your code on average? - 1x: Based. Probably a bit repetition. - 2x: Quality average. Good balance. - 3-4x: Probably overengineering or too much optimization - 5x or more: You are ai - never: Also Ai but forgot this code exists. Or you are a magician - or a lier So?

I setup my GitHub sponsors not long ago but didn't really mention it anywhere. If you appreciate what I do, these sponsorships do help a lot 🙏 My focus this year is all over like every year 😅 (e18e, chai, tinylibs, chokidar, vueuse, and much more). But I will keep on top of them all

That definitely was a journey. Awesome that you pulled through! This will unblock a lot of other e18e work. Well done! 🥳
