Trump just handed Russia and China all kinds of pretext and precedent to take illegal, unilateral action. We are headed into very dangerous times.

Putin shows he can invade Ukraine with minimal reprisals. Trump shows he can take over Venezuela with minimal reprisals. It’s like they’re giving the nod to Xi Jinping to have a go?

Even if Trump’s attack on Venezuela and kidnapping of Maduro somehow led to a positive impact on Venezuela’s future, it would not make these actions by the United States legal, moral or wise. Normalising and legitimising this behaviour endangers all countries - democracies and dictatorships alike.

Those threats made by Trump against Canada, Greenland and Mexico hold new weight today.

Rubio is claiming that they did not need Congress permission because it was a law enforcement mission. The US is behaving as a global police state, extending its own arbitrary legal decisions to the whole world. This is not a problem just for Venezuela.

Trump has just announced he is going to RUN another country (with or without boots on the ground) to ensure oil flows for US companies. Yes, there’s still people - including in Latin America - pretending this is about Maduro winning elections or not. How is a Trump occupation any more legitimate?

For the #USA to run #Venezuela prior to a transition, they will have to engage in a full scale military operation... Where is #Congress ?

If #Venezuela strikes back against the #USA will #NATO be called to support the USA, or has President Trump voided this by attacking first?

Keir Starmer should condemn Trump’s illegal action in Venezuela. Maduro is a brutal and illegitimate dictator, but unlawful attacks like this make us all less safe. Trump is giving a green light to the likes of Putin and Xi to attack other countries with impunity.
