i don't think i would know what to think about the anthropic ipo (which seems to be quite promising financially, based on the folks i follow on here who read s-1s for a living) if i hadn't read 'blood in the machine,' @bcmerchant.bsky.social's excellent book on the luddites.

Day 1 - SSB Fall Meeting 2026 has started. It is currently the opening address and they are introducing the priorities. We are entering an era of technological innovation, sans science, if what is being discussed is reflective of NASA as a whole, with "Nuclear NASA" and X-planes taking the lead.

Going back to the platform owned by the man who shuts down Starlink for Ukraine? No thanks.

Hell will freeze over before I log back in to X, Facebook or Instagram. If you all go back there, I will be the last human not on those shit platforms.

Six months have passed since the #ArtemisII mission and NASA has just released the reentry video from the Orion capsule! Here is a timelapse of the reentry, but be sure to check out the realtime version linked below! 🔭🧪

The right has been gloating that the #MeToo era ended, but we're due for a reckoning that's going to make that look like nothing by comparison.

This is just a relentlessly horrific story. It’s hard to adequately contextualize the moral desolation of this unfolding in the midst of a midterms against a ruling party helmed by inveterate rapists and rape apologists. www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/congres...

Welp, today is my last day employed with Boeing working on the International Space Station program. I'm heading up north to be closer to family, and don't have anything actually lined up yet. A break will be nice; looking to find something in the new year.

NASA released a bunch of 16 and 35mm film engineering footage of the Artemis II launch today. Naturally I knew what I had to do with it.

NASA and Katalyst have abandoned plans to boost the aging Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory after an attitude-control issue with the LINK servicer. LINK will still attempt rendezvous and proximity operations, gathering valuable data for future in-space servicing missions.

Years ago, NASA put out a Progress Pride flag of space images created by Rachel Lense. She is no longer at NASA, NASA is no longer celebrating diversity, and that old image just made me sad. So I made a new one. patreon.cosmoquest.org/posts/pride-...

I just posted a monster mosaic of the Moon, made from 60 #Artemis2 frames. I could have made this even better by downloading 180 frames and doing HDR processing on them first, but I'll leave that exercise to the reader :) www.patreon.com/elakdawalla/...

One plane forced to reroute because of a SpaceX explosion last year was running low on fuel, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency and fly the jet and its 283 passengers through a designated debris zone to reach an airport. (Published January)

A really cool way to experience some of ISS that you don't often come across is the ambient sounds and noises made. ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot did a great jot here, give it a listen.

Been trying to keep off the socials to keep the stress down, but holy cow, this week was a rough one. Probably the craziest week since I started at NASA in 2013. I am heartened that we got PAO to put the story out fast, and mostly accurate. But we're just going to have to see how next week goes

Our government can be made to do good things

On this day in 1935, FDR signed an executive order creating the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Of 2,000 WPA posters known to exist—publicizing community activities, theatrical productions, and health and educational programs—the Library's collection of more than 900 is the largest.

The tricky part is when "defend democratic values, support principled leaders, and safeguard our republic" has already become a partisan issue. I know professionals, especially military or ex-military love to claim to be "non-partisan," but the older I get the more I realize EVERYTHING is partisan.

We’re not here to advance any party's agenda. Our mission is patriotism: defend democratic values, support principled leaders, and safeguard our republic before we lose it for good.

There's a reason US intelligence had memos basically laying out "So we need to put this Hitler fella on trial, in the open, no frills, very clear we need to ensure it's fair and transparent and thorough or we create a cult of personality martyr and also he DESERVES to be humiliated in court" in WWII

There's some art going on in the comments to this game on steam.

The one interesting thing about the guy is that he was an indie game dev who released an extremely bad bullet hell game on Steam called Bohrdom back in 2018 (you can still buy it for like 2 bucks).
