eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Just heard my first fireworks of the season. Because of course you'd have them on Monday the 19th October, everyone remembers the rhyme, don't they? Thankfully they are too distant to cause Ginny any real distress but a reminder of the anxiety for her at this time of year. Fuck fireworks.

I trust this “rival” inquiry about as much as I would trust anything run by one of Toby Young’s (former?) employees. Freddie Attenborough who runs CAF used to work for Young (Young’s business partner, Noah Carl, was sacked from Cambridge for promoting eugenics). www.thetimes.com/uk/education...

2026 is running at least 1.1C warmer than any other year at least on record. Note all of the top 10 warmest are within last 23 years in near 80 year record at LHR. #climate #London (2/2)

Somehow this bluesky post now has a date of transmission (29th October) and official artwork.

I found some old notes for an rpg game using the characters and objects from Cluedo for Call of Cthulhu, where you start on the basic board but it gets weirder and more cosmic horror the further out the players go (randomly generated). Cthudo!

Didnt realise you'd been one of the victims shafted by Unbound. As I'm sure you're aware @alicefraser.bsky.social and @thebugle.bsky.social were another. Alice tells her story here. Really worth a listen/watch. youtu.be/8l73x6t27U4?...

I paid full price for each book I'm giving away. So why am I doing this? I'm doing this because... a) Last year my ex-publishers, Unbound, imploded, taking my earnings for the & the 7 books prior to it with them to hell, almost killing my career. I will never get any of that money back. And...

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

Just in case anyone is still unsure. Of the 12 hottest days in the UK Just 2 were in 20thC Whilst 10 have been in 21stC 2 (inc. the highest) were in 2022 3 have been *THIS YEAR* So 5 of the top 12 have been in the last 5 years Oh.. and NONE were in 1976

But.. but.. it's just summer.

Temperatures provisionally reached 38.1°C at Kew Gardens, making it the hottest day of the year so far. This is the second time this year we have reached 38°C. The only other time this has happened twice in one year was in 2022. It also makes it the 5th hottest day on record.

In Scotland for a couple of days this week. Looked at the weather forecast and they keep talking about something called r..r.. ray.. reyn.. rane. ? Any ideas?

What a wonderful, gentle summer's day. Fluffy clouds, slight breeze, low 20s Celsius. So few of them this year it feels like a treat and a throwback 🌤

And yet many deliberately-set moorland fires ALSO get out of control, causing wildfires. Even where they don’t, they dry out moorland soils and encourage the growth of monocultures (heather, Molinia) thereby making future wildfires more likely. That’s why moorland burning is restricted (‘banned’)

For GOD'S SAKE. Massive landowners call for ban on disposable BBQs, but at the same time call for "a lifting of the ban on controlled burning" 'You oiks shouldn't burn moorland - that's OUR job' Entitled double standards. Ban both. @georgemonbiot.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a...

This is genuinely scary. It is not 'just summer'

32nd day above 28C in London to think in years long gone we did not even achieve a single day. We don’t even have to go that far back in 2007 only 1 day above 28C, abs max of 29C and 2008 did not do much better either. A lot has changed even within a newly turned 18 year olds lifetime….

Just in case there is anyone here still wondering if Long Covid is real, here is a message from a friend of 40-odd years. He is (was?) a GP who worked all through the pandemic including many visits to care homes. He has been battling illness since, and his family and I nearly lost him last week.

There is no plant so attractive to bees as my autumn fruiting raspberries. The flowers are very discreet (almost insignificant to us) but they are absolutely humming with bees.

I am so proud of these😊. Onions have long been my nemesis in the veg growing world. Don't know why but have never been able to grow very good bulb onions. Usually they just bolt, but not this year despite (or possibly because of) the heat and dry. Variety Rose de Roscoff (aka Keravel Pink)

Things that irritate #2865 Cafés never offering cream with coffee. Coffee can now be made in a thousand different ways but simple coffee with cream is never available. I do not mean 'creamer' but actual dairy (or vegan) cream.
