This is a really well done piece on surveillance at the US's southern border, great graphics, interviews, reconstructions of what the cameras can see. Surveillance is a subject which I think is really challenging to do, both because it can be difficult to get data... www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Horrible man complained that cancel culture went too far, and here we are. Their rotten spirit is soaring, free from shame nor consequences. Their statements are feeding the algorithmic beast 24/7 fuelling discourse and polluting the information environment. They are literally flooding the plains

Now more than ever, we need public interest technology alternatives to Big Tech platforms.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

@wfp.org this is your strategic partner. I honestly don't know what this company has to do to get the boot. UN policies would blacklist tech partners involved in porn and gambling but warmongering, xenophobia and gender discrimination are fair game? Truly incomprehensible

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

This gets somehow even worse when you realize those comments weren't by "him" but by a different executive at Palantir. What the heck as investors tracking when they run the ESC checklist in the business and human rights assessment? This company is rotten to the core

This is an important recognition for the court, however it is somewhat problematic for the EU on the one hand to recognize the court's, and its officials, work upholding international justice, whilst simultaneously being indecisive & arguably weak regarding its responses to the US sanctions. #ICC

@accessnow.org + #KIO partners have long rang alarms about the normalization of shutdowns in conflict, and the targeting of civilian digital infrastructure by warring parties under the pretext of being "dual use". If States keep accepting this idiotic worldview they can say bye to their hyperscalers

YES! A thousand times this!

The answer IMO isn’t to clutch pearls at the (long-delayed) realization that many if not most data centers _are_ legitimate targets. It’s to do the work of _not building military applications into civilian infra._ And now they (and we) will have to pay more to do it credibly.

Replying to @0xdaeda1a.bsky.social

Data centers are insufficiently segregated and insufficiently protected because users with military applications have been free riding on the civilian uses of technology. But the providers all have military contracts.

One thing I find really striking is this quote: “‘A school is protected unless it’s occupied by a military actor, but a data center isn’t.’” I think it’s reasonable to assume all data centers have military actors. Palantir, for example, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

Jane Lytvynenko@janelytv.bsky.social

For the first time this year, data centers have become targets for bombardment in global conflicts. Our analysis shows at least 27 such attacks in 2026. Experts worry the targeting of data centers opens a Pandora's box that cannot be closed. www.nbcnews.com/tech/securit...

"Army Cyber Command is developing a platform to turn AI agents into autonomous weapons that can navigate and “neutralize” the computer systems of adversaries" Looking at the mess made by OpenAI when they left their AI agents unsupervised, I kind of see how this can possibly go horribly wrong.
