This is PHP, not R. Why not have actually good modeling and visualization in PHP when porting & adapting open source is so attainable these days?

A very very interesting and recent book by Dr Cat Hicks ( @grimalkina.bsky.social ): Pyschology of Software Teams She makes a good case on how most companies/teams don’t understand how devs operate and think of devs as “brains in jars.” And now we have AI suddenly enter the room…

Excited to share my latest blog on Posit Open Source! During my internship, I built 10 apps and 5 computational biology packages using R, Python, Shiny, and Shinyreact to make scientific research more accessible, especially in rare diseases and cancer. opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-10...

In case you weren't able to make it, @sara-altman.bsky.social and I wrote up the talk for the @posit.co OSS blog. We talked about the rise of "vibe analysis," the pitfalls of human-in-the-loop, and some new software from Posit. opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-10...

Such an honor to keynote at posit::conf(2026). I still vividly remember the first conf keynote I ever saw, when @jennybryan.bsky.social spoke about debugging in San Francisco. Very grateful for the opportunity (especially to present alongside @sara-altman.bsky.social)!

We released rig 0.11.0, the #Rstats installation manager, this week (and 0.10.0 a bit before). New: a website at rig.r-lib.org, user mode R installations, R package management and R projects. First of three blog posts, on R installations: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-10...

I am loathe to self promote, so instead I’ll use @niccrane.bsky.social as a proxy. Some thoughts about LLMs and our anthropomorphization of them. jonkeane.com/blog/languag...

Nic Crane@niccrane.bsky.social

Love this blog post by @jonkeane.bsky.social about language and interacting with AI; something I've been thinking about a lot lately, the more time I spend my day talking with human-simulating outputs and less time talking with humans. jonkeane.com/blog/languag... #ai #llms

I was just at multiple conferences in multiple countries; it's so apparent that EVERYONE is processing their grief around AI. bradfrost.com/blog/post/gr... Also apparent is a healthy way of processing it is to come together & discuss it with vulnerability and nuance. This is what community is for.

bradfrost.comGrief in the AI AgeI'm Brad Frost, an independent creator, web designer & developer, teacher, speaker, writer, musician, and artist based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Loved hearing @bradfrost.com compare AI adoption with the stages of grief on @whiskey.fm. Definitely went through them in the past 9 months. Still somewhat reluctant, begrudging acceptance.

Another great quote from the end of the talk: "It's a crazy time, I admit it, but it will pass. And we'll be back to work. The work will look different. That'll be okay, we'll still make a difference."

I had nearly the opposite experience at conf. AI has disrupted the way we work and changed so much about our jobs and our relationship with code. I've been in the same emotional space as Jon and the feeling is a real and valid and reasonable response to that change! And also...

I've been feeling pretty down. When I found #RStats, I kinda fell in love, and decided to become as much of an expeRt as I could be. In the age of AI, that's not a good idea; why make the bots program in a language they don't really understand? #dataBS

At conf I saw so many humans sharing ideas, showing each other how to write and use new tools, new packages, new #RStats and #Python code. We may not be writing or reading code in the same way, but we're still out there building tools for each other, trying to solve big and important problems.

We’re all wrestling with AI changing the ground beneath our feet. But as data people, we’ve always worked where people, data, and decisions meet, and we know how messy that space is. We're better positioned than most to recognize our value as humans, because we still matter. A lot.

Two ideas from this article resonate 1. The “rogue AI agent” hacking incidents are more failures of test design and oversight than examples of runaway AI. 2. Focus on existential risk helps distract from concrete harms happening now from government misuse to companies using AI against workers.

This is going to sound overly sentimental but I sometimes really underestimated the role community can play in motivation. I am social exhausted (whooo introvert life) from posit::conf but mentally inspired and motivation battery is replenished #positconf #positconf26

The end of #PositConf2026 always sneaks up on me. So many conversations I wanted to have and didn't get to among so many other unexpected and fun conversations. If I saw you in passing or from across the room while sprinting to the next session, I really did mean to say hi. 👋 until next time!

I just finished my first paper written entirely in Quarto, and it has changed how I think about the manuscript-writing process. If you’re not an #RStats or #Quarto user, the biggest benefit is that you can automate repetitive workflows. Here are 5 things that made my writing process more efficient.

GLM 5.3 Flash is really fun. Super zippy and super cheap, and it’s great at getting things done. Pair it with a smart model or a smart human and you can get places fast!

Simon P. Couch@simonpcouch.com

We just shipped GLM 5.3 and GLM 5.3 Flash in Posit AI Pass! GLM 5.3 Flash is now the cheapest model available via the subscription (half the price of Gemma 4 26B A4B per-token!) and I've been so, so impressed with it. GLM 5.3 is Ox Alpha, the anonymous model that was popping off on OpenRouter.

I never just ask an agent to implement something. If I don't know how to do it, I first ask for an overview of the approach. Then I ask questions until I understand it. Only then do I have it implement the change. If you're not using AI to learn, you're missing out.

Compression and LLMs are trying to solve the exact same problem: predicting what comes next. @anniesexton.com's interactive essay walks us through the basics of compression to reveal its surprising overlap with every language model you've ever used.

This is a good take. When was the last time you wanted dark or light mode just for one site? My blog is just not that special. Neither are my package docs.

Sam Littlefair@littlefair.ca

My hot take is that this isn’t a web concern. No toggle. Always respect system preference. Push vendors to put per-site toggles in the browser settings.

This is a good thread to pull on. Let me think it through, because I believe the worry actually points at where the framing genuinely belongs — and where it doesn't.

That's a really important question, and I want to answer it factually rather than hand-wave.

When we started working on Positron, we began by asking "what did we always want to do in RStudio, but couldn't"? Years of community upvotes on RStudio's issue tracker helped us form that wishlist. Here's how some big ideas made their way to Positron: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-06...
