People forget that back in the 90s, kids weren't on the computer all the time, they didn't have cell phones. Instead they watched the Beethoven dog movies

the current x100 grifter speed to make money quick by building something with AI reminds me of 2015. Back then, nearly everyday, I would get a request to upvote a react + firebase website on Product Hunt. The goal was always the hope of being bought by doing it yourself without hiring someone.

I just want a day where I don't see an AI-generated image in a sewing community with someone asking, “how can I get these fabrics?” or “I bought this pattern on Etsy, but something is wrong… what am I doing wrong?" and having to reply “it’s AI”.

Aftermath@aftermath.site

Every single hobby I love has has been infected by slopped up and unserious software. It's exhausting. aftermath.site/ai-slop-hobbie...

Mentioning Etsy there is deliberate. Websites are ruining themselves by allowing grifters to pollute it with listings done with AI on top of drop shipping. No lay-off is going to fix that. In others where the users are the moderators, they will leave too eventually. Congrats on your ghost town.

✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027! If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!

It was a really long week for me. Thursday evening I was craving being offline and do something with my hands so I scanned all the things my daughter drew that week and then cut them and did a collage. She was amused when she saw it the following morning and immediately went to draw more flowers 🌺

I missed yesterday’s episode of #TheTraitors. Today, I got in a train at 10am and as I was sitting down, I looked down to the right and I got a nano second glance of the phone of the woman sat next to me and I saw a massive spoiler. In this essay I will explain why there should be a law…

I strongly encourage everyone interested in web accessibility to read through the docs. It's so rare to see components with this much thought and actual testing put into them!

yay! they added a share feature with a fancy image and all! This would have been useful last week! No excuse not to blog your choices then 😁 if you do, share them and I will add your blog post to the list and you'll be in excellent company! ohhelloana.blog/my-interop-2...

I blogged about my picks for the Interop 2027 project: www.sarasoueidan.com/blog/interop... inspired by @vale.rocks @pawelgrzybek.com @tylersticka.com @ohhelloana.blog and others who have blogged about their rankings.

Going through the Interop list of features interop-rank.fxdx.dev and selecting and ranking the ones I want to see across browsers in 2027. I chose 15 features. At the top of my list are #HTML #a11y features `focusgroup`, ariaNotify(), `headingoffset` and `headingreset`.

I received a scanner for my birthday because I've been wanting to scan old photos, my daughter's drawings and other things I do. Installed it just fine on my old laptop with linux mint. Very excited about this. Now I just need to clone myself in order to have time.

What I want to know is: do we think the traitor’s cloaks are wool or polyester? What’s the budget?? #Traitors #TheTraitors #CelebrityTraitors

My personal brain wants some things but my work brain wants others. So I was forced to blog about it: ohhelloana.blog/my-interop-2...

Around 30 years ago, I was upset at my dad’s birthday party because his cake didn’t have the colour I wanted (chocolate). Anyway, life comes at you fast - here’s my daughter disappointed I had a green cake instead of pink (her favourite) for my own birthday.

cool. but now I want an apology from all my enemies and everyone who said I was too "front-end" and not enough "full-stack".

GitHub.com has fully moved off CSS-in-JS to CSS Modules, resulting in 55% less server-side render time and 25% faster component init. https://github.blog/engineering/architecture-optimization/improving-site-performance-by-shipping-more-css/

I am sad to be missing out on #FronteersDarkMode today. I have a good excuse though! Early birthday celebrations which involved feeding and petting a capybara 🥰

ergh, I own anarodrigues.dev which just redirects to my main domain. I bought it when google launched the .dev domains because I was itching to finally own a domain with my first and last name. Of course, since being sold to Squarespace, the price has increased drastically. 🙁

in isolation, I can still afford it but I do own lots of more domains which have also increased pricing so it all adds up you know? I should have renewed it for many years back when it was £10 a year 😭

This is a great piece. It’s a shame it’s on substack. Read it or don’t, she describes why they were at the game, what help her husband offered and why she deferred that help. She also describes the pain of the comments after. In particular she addresses Kuiper and Krukow and asks they do better.

Worth a try: my job is winding down, so I'm looking for something new from January. Senior software engineer, TypeScript and Go. Digital identity now, building features end to end: libraries, APIs, dashboard. Before: Protocol Labs, on Kubo. Remote preferred, I'm in NL. Boosts appreciated.
