Both teams in the World Series this year have never won the Series. There are currently 5 such teams, so in a little over a week, there will be only 4. Current non-winners in the AL: Tampa Bay and Seattle. In the NL: Milwaukee, Colorado and San Diego. SD is the oldest team on the list.

Good news for my quest to see all of Shakespeare's extant works performed, as this increases the chances of Edward III being performed. It's a strong play, definitely one of the best of his works not in the First Folio. www.theguardian.com/culture/2026...

theguardian.comScholars conclude ‘beyond doubt’ that Shakespeare was main author of Edward IIIExclusive: Play anonymously published in 1596 was collaboration between Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe, according to computer analysis

Every race on the ballot this November is a choice between democracy and oligarchy. If Democrats win and don't govern well, you'll always have the option to remove them in future elections. Because they're democrats. If the oligarchs win and you don't like how they govern, you are forever fucked.

President Trump and the Republicans had a two year romp through every political fantasy nourished in their heart since The John Birch Society and Richard Nixon, and you know what: it turns out their ideas were bad and are tanking the economy.

100 years ago today, the St. Louis Cardinals won their first MLB title, beating the Yankees in game 7 of the 1926 World Series. Grover Cleveland Alexander got the save after pitching a complete game the day before. Babe Ruth was the final out, caught stealing second.

On October 23, 1886, the Browns beat the Chicago White Stockings (now the Cubs) of the National League in what MLB considers a (but not THE) World Series, 4 games to 2. The final game went to extra innings. Thus the first St. Louis World Series championship was almost 140 years ago.

This was not, however, the first title for the team. In 1876, the predecessor St. Louis Brown Stockings won the National League title. There was no Series, and the team fizzled into bankruptcy, but picking up the pieces, the St. Louis Browns reformed the team and joined the American Association.

It was a fall gardening day. Took out the old raspberry canes and fertilized them. I weeded the front bed, took out the remaining lettuce and thinned the arugula. Then I fertilized the area past the arugula and planted next year's garlic. Also (not pictured) took the netting off the grapes.

Per my custom, I will be rooting for the winner of the White Sox/Guardians series, as their scheduling proves MLB and the networks hate them the most.

So we now know what SPD officers will do if they find someone else's wallet with thousands of dollars in it.

SPD Overpaid Officers By $13 Million. Now the City Wants It Back. Officers got retroactive paychecks that were as much as $32,000 too high. If the city wants to recover the money, they have to cut a deal with the police union. publicola.com/2026/10/01/s...
