One small bungalow turns into eight large homes for families. All for under $2,000. If you want more of these housing options, tell Danielle Smith to keep her hands off Edmonton's zoning πŸ‘‡ www.growtogetheryeg.com/email-council

Weirdly after all that great bike infrastructure in central Grenoble the newly developed area to the northwest has basic directional lanes on either side of roads, with no protection from cars and not even any paint through intersections. This area was designated a β€œEuropean Green Capital”

This is a design I don’t think I’ve ever seen before, center running bike lane slightly raised above general travel lanes on each side. Planting and sidewalks on each side. Nicely separates slow pedestrian traffic from fast bike/scooter traffic, and safe from right-turning cars

Great scenery on the early part of this line too, and BART gets to show off its speed on these regional rail-like sections, beating some of the free way traffic! Polycentric transit systems are fun because they let you do trips like this. Total cost: $32.75

Brief diversion for coffee and to watch trains in San Mateo, which has a very nice station that has the vibes of dating from the Southern Pacific era but actually was built in 2000.

Left-NIMBYs make me want to fucking die. Painfully stupid self-righteous hypocrites

Not to rub salt on the wound but this is a tiktok post from one of the Metra board members that Brandon Johnson just re-nominated. Just pure left-NIMBYism So I am not expecting much upzoning or TOD effort from Metra anytime soon (unless it’s 100% affordable and therefore unsustainable)

At its heart, this is a story about sprawl and the lack of a public square in many cities and towns. Places with parks, plazas, and places people can access for free often have outdoor concerts, movie screenings, or just ways people can socialize and have fun without having to pay for it.

bloomberg.comThe Fun Shortage Is Real, and It’s Making America MiserableWith fewer places to relax and socialize, and steeper prices for entry, having fun is quantifiably harder than it used to be.

there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood β€” of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.

i consider myself genuinely patriotic. i love our music and our movies and a lot about our culture and its achievements. new york is in fact the greatest city in the world. we have so many beautiful people here. our elites have declared war on it but it's still worth fighting for. to me at least

Expected parties responsible for 737MAX crashes 1. Boeing 2. McDonnell Douglas 3. Revolving door regulators 4. Reagan … 17. Donald Trump … 35. The UFC

WHOA. At least three passenger jets appear to have had rejected landings/go-rounds in ~30 minutes while that UFC light show was going a mile away. @aaronparnas.bsky.social previously reported a commercial pilot filed an FAA safety report about being β€œnearly blinded” by a test run of the lights.

This thread is a great demonstration of the antisocial behavior and attitudes stimulated by car dependence. It is a system of mobility and lifestyle of conflict with strangers and the threat of violence. Walking/cycling/transit are communal experiences that stimulate camaraderie and civility.

This guy is so mad about imaginary traffic he's not even in lol

Posting a bitchy social media video about your opponent and revealing that you apparently like to park blocking bus lanes

Brad continues to fundraise off of a performative, self-promoting case that does nothing to actually help immigrant communities across NYC. Meanwhile, I’m doing the work to fight ICE. It’s remarkable to watch him make the trauma these families are enduring all about himself.

Level boarding? ❌ Off-board fair payment? ❌ Dedicated lanes? ❌ Signal priority? ❌ More doors? ❌ All-door boarding? ❌ Full low floor? ❌ Special shiny livery? πŸ™‚β€β†•οΈβœ¨βœ…

Do not threaten me with a good time.

Meta is raising the prospect of shutting down social media services in New Mexico in response to a push by state prosecutors for fundamental changes to platforms, including Instagram, to protect the mental health and safety of children.

Looks so much better than SNCFs boring all-white livery or Amtrak’s weird white and grey one

Velvet, France's first private rail operator, baptised its first Avelia Horizon trainset yesterday at Alstom's La Rochelle plant. It will be the first fully privately owned company to compete against SNCF Voyageurs on high-speed services.

The hungry red panda at the Prospect Park Zoo? Adorable. The HungryPanda delivery app scamming small businesses? Not adorable. So they will be paying $580,000 back. We'll keep pursuing companies that take advantage of New Yorkers, and we'll keep asking if we can pet a red panda just for a second.
