seeing the posts about visitors discovering that you can walk around most of our cities and just be yourself in a multicultural setting, discovering tailgating, starting impromptu block parties, my muslim mayor, etc. etc. it's corny to say it but that's our secret sauce. and it means something

i consider myself genuinely patriotic. i love our music and our movies and a lot about our culture and its achievements. new york is in fact the greatest city in the world. we have so many beautiful people here. our elites have declared war on it but it's still worth fighting for. to me at least

It's not an easy place to live, but it's easy to love. Especially in the summer when there is so much fun stuff to do. As the old slogan went, "New York is a Summer Festival"

💯 this is it. I am reading posts by folks FROM AMERICA that are visiting LA for the WC and marveling at the multicultural wonderland it is. You can have this everywhere! America is the best because you can be you and you can be us and that is wonderful.

My (New Yorker) Uruguayan aunts were visiting - they made Brazilian and Scottish friends just walking around Central Park, and had drinks with Knicks fans in midtown. I love our city so much.

I grew up thinking LA was a smoggy, traffic burdened hellhole. A couple years ago I finally went to visit and was bowled over by how GORGEOUS it all is and the multicultural friendliness. LA is basically a paradise that needs social housing and investment.

Oh man so much. I talked to someone about how they thought acid rain was like quick sand; something so common in media but not in real life. Had to tell them about how it was a real problem, we just, kinda fixed it mostly.

I love that I can walk around and hear languages I don’t understand just taking a walk. And the languages I do understand of course. And there’s always an opportunity to just have a variety of tiny micro interactions yes that adds so much flavor to any day.

In Dallas (!) a few years ago I was walking up to the store in the uptown area and had forgotten about the Pride parade and there were a bunch of families, mostly Latino and Asian, there with kids jumping and screaming their heads off for beads and the drag queens were so sweet, tossing beads

Just baffling how the people most adamant about calling themselves patriots not only hate democracy but also hate what makes America America. (Ditto for chest-pounding Christians who despise everything Jesus advocated, and it’s a heavy overlap.)
