Congratulations to Hayley Thorpe on receiving the 2026 Young Investigator Grant from @bbrfoundation.bsky.social. Her research investigates the genetic link between cannabis use and schizophrenia, which could point to potential new treatment targets.

A reminder that the Cannabinoid and NeuroImmunology Lab (CANI) at the uOttawa School of Psychology is recruiting now!! Interested in studying how the immune system alters the brain to influence behaviour across a developmental and aging trajectory? Reach out: uniweb.uottawa.ca/edit/profile...

I am beyond thrilled to share that I will be joining the @uottawa.ca School of Psychology as an Assistant Professor starting January 2027!! My lab's research will focus on cannabinoid neuroimmunology and behaviour. I am recruiting graduate students to start Fall 2027.

Really excited to share some cool data from Labo Tremblay grad student Colin, in collaboration with @drjkhokhar.bsky.social, on acute cannabis exposure and OPCs!!

Here is my letter to the MacDonald Laurier Institute on the subject of their appalling research. Use as you will. I recommend sending something of your own, though. And if you know anyone associated with MLI - and Board directors, say - send it to them, too.

I'm sure this take has been took already but it's worth saying: the obscene, cynical performance of "It's about being against plagiarism" re Arday is absurd when the entire academic superstructure is being reorganised around mandating plagiarism using advanced plagiarism automation software

I wrote about a reason not to use generative AI in your writing that I haven't seen anyone talking about. Once I realized this, banning GenAI in our lab's writing became a no-brainer. Feel free to share, I think this is probably useful especially for trainees: www.carlsonlab.bio/thoughts/the...

I want to hurl Microsoft Word into the sun. What do you mean I have autosave, autorecover and hit command + save every few minutes but my last two weeks of writing are just gone because it reverted to the original saved version of the file.

It probably got corrupted due to a mess of Zotero, track changes and too short autosave (2 minutes?) but at no point did it indicate it wasn't saving. Into the sea with this paper.

I remember meeting with Frontiers after doing a Guest Editor spot and providing feedback that I really hated the (at the time, less) automated system—precisely because of the issues around assigning reviewers and that moving toward a more automated system (what they were pushing) is a mistake.

Michael Okun@michael-okun.bsky.social

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience. It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇

I think there are good people and papers at Frontiers journals, but this push to even more AI and issues with editorial autonomy mean I won't be participating anymore in the Frontiers ecosystem for now.

Reviewing stuff and authors saying they used GenAI for readability/word choice but then saying they edited the GenAI responses, what are we even doing. If you're editing the GenAI, why do you need to use this energy draining theft machine to edit your work when you're capable of doing it omg

UC Berkeley Law creates new AI policy that bans AI for "conceptualizing, outlining, drafting, revising, translating, or editing any work submitted for credit" or exams because "thinking remains the sine qua non of good lawyering (and of a quality legal education)." That's what I'm talking about.
