Reminded of Stallman having other people book his flights and do other admin tasks for him because he refused to use “nonfree” software but didn’t mind someone else using it on his behalf.

In case you were wondering it sure appears athropic are the kind of company Bluesky hates because they make money instead of the kind of company Bluesky hates because they don’t make money.

*ANTHROPIC FILES PUBLICLY FOR US IPO www.sec.gov/Archives/edg...

i CALLED it, ive been saying this ever since deepseek's margins were published!

85% inference margin, training costs are well below that. Really remarkable.

people were complaining about Mali GPUs being wonky, and google took it as "oh so they don't like wonky drivers, they want outright broken drivers" instead of "please for the love of god use adreno or xclipse"

Sushi in Japan is for rich tourists and corporate expense accounts, not normal people. At nominal exchange rates (eg tourists), the median American is richer than all but the top 5% of Japanese households, and even adjusting for PPP differences they’re comfortably in the top quartile.

Lycopersicon Esculentum@lycopersicon.bsky.social

@evanwch.bsky.social Most Americans think the Cheesecake Factory is a "nice and fancy restaurant" while the French get farm fresh cheese at gas stations and the Japanese get flawless sushi in subway stations BECAUSE US capitalism has kept us poor and abject. So that's for pointing our the problem.

you can rly tell where the industry is at given over 1/3 of mastodon users are writing more than 80% of their code with LLMs I try to tell anti-AI people this and I really don't think the truth has hit them yet

Armin Ronacher@mitsuhiko.at

The poll so far between Twitter, Bluesky and Mastodon. I think it looks less absurd than last time, but still pretty clear that the base is divided. bsky.app/profile/mits...

hypervisors are bourgeois

Dark@dark.ski

well with how shit this week has been for sysadmins i cannot overstate how important having a functioning hypervisor is for homelabbers who also had to deal with this bullshit

It’s really silly that I can put an onlyfans link in the text of my profile but not on the new link buttons. The UI and t&s inconsistencies on Bluesky are really piling up.

surprised that they're making good on improving the linux client like they said they would - proper autoupdater - screen share finds audio sources correctly - native wayland - vaapi screen share encoding - talking status in tray indicator - hevc video playback all within the last few months

Sulfrix@sulfrix.com

Discord impresses Linux userbase by speaking fluent Wayland

correct me if I'm wrong, but users have no way to label a link as explicit on their profile themselves? so you *have* to get manually reviewed to have a tag marked as adult content? and some adult websites are permanently blocked regardless? what the hell is this system lol

purplebirdman@purplebirdman.com

I think link moderation is a bad idea.

Not even getting into the other big issue that was disclosed yesterday. There's nothing to be done about it.

you and everyone resembling you must be removed from the data so that we can have a bot that isn't a pain in the ass

The security enhancements related to the PHP programming language and associated testing have been completed, and final checks are now underway. We expect new logins to resume today. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

i like that the better LLMs get, the more delusional people this sound. it's funny

Eniko Fox@enikofox.com

If you dislike AI please stop saying AI can code now. Just because it can generate code that works for some loose definition of the word works doesn't mean it can code because coding is so much more than that. Please, I'm begging you, you do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to them

nix is great for ci and a way of sadomasochism for anything else tbh

Isaac Corbrey@isaaccorbrey.com

The benefits of Nix are basically complete confidence in your system working at all times. It's great. The downsides of Nix are you have to read and write Nix. It's not great.

this is literally the same as every DRM argument. "nono we're just afraid of piracy tanking our sales" if you were confident in your own game as a product rather than a license on your own terms you wouldn't feel this

also if you point out that maybe this protocol who has descended from 18 years of backwards compatibility with a 2 week project wasnt designed well and sucks they might either kinda agree with you and do nothing about it or call you a terrorist who loves billionaire funded protocols just because

you'll just have to move every time your server operator decides to defederate with half the network because they have a grudge about another server operator being a meanie in 2019, or because your aroma instance succumbed to The Rot, or because the server shut down because it was too expensive

Fennek@fennek.bsky.bark.wolp.chat

If you dont want to move everytime a rich ashole destroy this place, just try out the Fediverse. On Wafrn you can even migrate your full bsky Account and lose nothing. Then we have Mastodon. All together in a big Fediverse. Never controled by one person. You can even make your own server.

[blameless retrospective voice]: it turns out that the people who design systems for the entire world living in a dysfunctional nimby dystopia that effectively forces them to live in communes perhaps causes dysfunctional nimby dystopia commune assumptions to leak everywhere

stalin was right exactly once in his entire lifetime and that's when he called socdems the moderate wing of fascism

a lot of opposition to AI is rent seeking, and the material incentives of being a rentier, even a small time one, lead you towards fascist conclusions from first principles

yeah we should enslave the entire petite bourgeoisie and that includes especially the freelance artists

copyright is informational landlordism. a regressive, disgusting idea, and doubly absurd considering it rests on the idea that a person may own thoughts as private property at all

charlotte reposted

it is literally so weird that people have turned Swartz into a figure primarily used to browbeat people he knew and worked with personally while arguing for copyright enforcement. do they not hear themselves?
