Hey, @nytimes.com & @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social, how come the news piece on this report from House Committee on the Judiciary Dems doesn't get into the credible new rape allegations? As a decades-long subscriber, tell me how does this not rate the "But her emails" treatment Hillary Clinton got?

Hank Hoffman reposted

What Kamala Harris proposes in not impeaching Trump is this the same reason why letting Jefferson Davis and the rest of the Confederate soldiers and leaders off the hook was a bad idea.. We've been paying for it ever since😡

It's amazing how editors will say "we can't see inside this public figure's mind," "we can't assume their intentions" — and then write stuff like this.

Hey, @nytimes.com @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social, so what's up with underplaying this? Trying to find out if there's a "Hillary's email" angle to it?

Judd Legum@juddlegum.bsky.social

1. Not sure when a new, on-the-record rape allegation against a sitting president isn’t considered news — especially considering Trump was found liable by a jury in a similar case — but it was ignored by most mainstream media outlets

@nytimes.com @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social Why is the USA "paper of record" hiding that the House Dems' report revealed more—and previously unreported—credible allegations of rape by Donald trump?

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

There are so many different credible allegations about Donald Trump being a rapist, you can almost understand how The New York Times missed the new charges here, but uh, this is supposed to be The New York Times.

@patrickhealynyt.bsky.social @nytimes.com As a decades-long NYT subscriber, I would also like the answer to Marisa Kabas's question.

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

@nytimes, why are you not reporting this prominently? Not as important as your legendary coverage of the "But Her Emails" scandal?

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

You can't expect the New York Times to give any attention to a story about the president being credibly accused of violent rape when the story breaks so close to an election. It's not like we're talking about something *really* important, like email security protocols.

@brianbeutler.bsky.social: "Successful elections aren’t only assemblages of talking points that poll well. They’re built on good storytelling; because through storytelling we can make better-than-educated guesses about how politics will change in the near future." /1

offmessage.netWhere’s The Music? This election is a referendum on Trump’s attempt to rule as king. Democrats should close on putting down his rebellion, no matter what happens to the price of diesel.

Beutler argues, correctly, that Dems running for office need to say NOW that they'll be receiving a mandate to roll back the corruption & cruelty & hold accountable those who tried to steal our country & freedom. "Affordability" is important. But it's also a consultant-workshopped talking point. /2

Why do so many of us feel the stakes are existential? Not because of gas prices. Ossoff gets it. Some others do, too. But even charismatic political talents like Abdul El-Sayed are being led astray by the advice to hew to talking points & avoid the narrative of accountability. That must change. /3

This is the argument of people who want Democrats in Congress to absolve Republicans of the problem of having to defend the indefensible. It's also the argument of people who want Dems to shirk THEIR Constitutional duty to hold the president accountable. All in Congress have that responsibility. /1

Voice in the Wind from Cascadia@voiceinthewind.bsky.social

The old saying is that if you strike the king you must kill him. That was the problem the last time. I only support impeachment if there is sufficient stomach in the Senate to convict. Like it or not, Republicans hold the key here. You need to get enough of them to actually carry out removal.

Dems aren't absolved because Republican colleagues are complicit in the crimes. Dems should act both because it's their responsibility but ALSO to force Republicans on the record AGAIN & AGAIN in favor of crimes. & then make that an issue as the GOP would do if the shoe was on other foot. /2
